USA U19 team defeats Hungary to advance in tournament

The USA Women's U19 team defeated Hungary 85-55 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Women's U19 World Championships. The team will advance to the medalist round at the tournament, held in Tunis, Tunisia. The United States will face China (5-1) Saturday in one of the two semifinals.

Wisconsin sophomore guard Jolene Anderson, competing for Team USA, had two points, three rebounds and a steal in 10 minutes Friday.

Banks helps Big Ten team to 3-0 record

Wisconsin sophomore guard Janese Banks scored eight points and had four assists in the Big Ten Foreign Tour team's 107-52 romp over the Netherlands National Team Wednesday.

The teams also matched up on Thursday, with the Big Ten winning 88-52. In that game, Banks had four points and three rebounds. The Big Ten Foreign Team completed its three-game sweep and took Friday off before heading to Belgium to compete Saturday.

Badgers release non-conference men's basketball schedule

The Wisconsin men's basketball team released its non-conference 2005-06 schedule, which includes eight games at home. The Badgers will host the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Dec. 7, Marquette Dec. 10, and UW-Milwaukee Dec. 15.

The Badgers will compete in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Nov. 18-21 and will face Norfolk State, Eastern Kentucky and a to-be-determined opponent. Wisconsin opens its home season Nov. 26 against Coastal Carolina and travels to Wake Forest for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Nov. 29.

The Badgers then play six straight games at home, including all three of its in-state rivals. Pepperdine and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington also come to Madison Dec. 3 and 12, respectively. After a break for finals and the holidays, Wisconsin hosts Louisiana Tech Dec. 28 and heads to Pittsburgh Dec. 31. Wisconsin's only other non-conference game is against North Dakota State Jan. 21.

Game times and television coverage will be announced when the Big Ten announces the remainder of the Badgers' schedule.

ESPNEWS to broadcast coaches' press conferences Aug. 1

ESPNEWS will broadcast all 11 coaches' press conferences Aug. 1 at Big Ten Media Day, the first time in conference history this has happened. The coaches will speak from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. central standard time, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Dave Revsine will host the coverage from the station's Bristol, Conn., studio, and college football analyst Jim Donnan will add commentary. Brian Kenny will host "The Hot List" on ESPNEWS from 2-5 p.m. and will have live interviews with coaches and athletes.

UW/OSU volleyball match to be televised

ESPN2 will broadcast the University of Wisconsin/Ohio State volleyball match, held Oct. 29, on tape delay Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.

"We're excited to have been selected for one of the nationally televised matches," said UW coach Pete Waite. "It's great exposure for our team and I'm sure they picked our match because we've had some great battles with Ohio State in the past. The Buckeyes have a strong nucleus returning so I think it will be a real battle."
