Badgers strengthen backcourt

With Trevon Hughes' commitment, Wisconsin has assembled one of the premier backcourts in the Big Ten

A few weeks ago, Trevon Hughes told that he had a favorite. "I have made the decision in my mind," Hughes said at the time. "I stay pretty steady with it."

On Monday Hughes confirmed the speculation that the Wisconsin Badgers were his choice over the Iowa Hawkeyes, during a press conference at St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wis.

"As I looked at it and looked at the other schools I was comparing it to Wisconsin and I didn't see any comparison between the other schools and Wisconsin," Hughes told

In landing Hughes, the Badgers put the pieces together for one of the best future backcourts not just in the Big Ten, but maybe in the country. Jason Bohannon, despite playing on an injured knee this summer that is presently being looked at, was terrific at Nike Camp.

Combining Bohannon and Hughes together is quite the 1-2 punch for the Badgers. Hughes is built like a tank. He is a strong-willed guy who can get to the rim and finish. His perimeter game has come a long way.

The Badgers also hold a commitment from center J.P. Gavinski of Wisconsin Dells. That gives them three players from's current Top 100 – Nos. 53, 61 and 98. Not a bad recruiting class at all for the team that also landed a pair of Top 100 prospects in the class of 2005.
