Calhoun Big Ten player of the week

Wisconsin running back honored for record-setting day

Junior tailback Brian Calhoun's record-setting performance Saturday led the University of Wisconsin football team to a 56-42 win over visiting Bowling Green. Monday morning, Calhoun was named Big Ten offensive player of the week, the league announced.

Calhoun, a Colorado transfer who last played two seasons ago, exploded for 258 rushing yards on 43 carries in his first game for the Badgers. His five rushing touchdowns tied a school record and are tied for fourth most in Big Ten history. Calhoun's rushing attempts, yards and touchdowns were all UW records for a debut performance.

Calhoun also added a 39-yard reception to pile up 297 all-purpose yards on the day. He became the 12th player in school annals to rush for at least 200 yards in a game; Calhoun's 258-yard effort ranks eighth on the school's single-game list and his 43 attempts place him in a tie for fourth in school history.
