Professional destinations set up for Wilkinson, Bruckler; men's hockey game time changed

Greece has ‘Wilk'

Former University of Wisconsin forward Mike Wilkinson has signed a contract with the Aris B.S.A. Basketball Club in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Aris B.S.A. is in the top Greek basketball league and competes in Euroleague play.

"It only makes sense that the land of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle would be wise enough to recognize the talents of Mike Wilkinson," head coach Bo Ryan said in a release Wednesday. "It's great to see a player that has such a high basketball IQ get a chance to prove himself on anther level."

At Wisconsin, Wilkinson averaged 14.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as a senior, ending his career with a loss to eventual national champion North Carolina in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. He was named first-team All-Big Ten as a senior and finished third in league play with 7.9 rebounds per game. Wilkinson is sixth on Wisconsin's all-time scoring list with 1,532 points and third on the career rebounding list with 856 after starting 98 straight games in his Wisconsin career.

Wilkinson was not selected in the NBA Draft, but he competed with the Utah Jazz summer league team, putting up 29 points and 16 rebounds in the six games in which he played.

Bruckler signs with Checkers

Former Wisconsin goalie Bernd Bruckler has come to terms with the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League. The first-team All-American, a 2001 draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers, attended a camp with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Checkers' American Hockey League affiliate.

Bruckler had a 51-41-16 career record, .916 save percentage and a program-low 2.48 goals against average, while at Wisconsin. The Awesome Austrian was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week nine times in his career.

Hockey game time changed

Due to a men's basketball game earlier in the day, the Wisconsin men's hockey game against Michigan Tech Dec. 10 will begin at 8 p.m. instead of 7 p.m., as originally scheduled. The Wisconsin men's basketball team takes on Marquette at noon that day at the Kohl Center.
