UW freshman forward announced that he is academically ineligible for the spring semester

Marcus Landry, a 6-foot-7 freshman forward on the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team, announced Monday that he has been declared academically ineligible for the spring semester.

Landry, a product of Milwaukee Vincent High School, stressed in his statement that he intends to work diligently to get his academics in order at UW.

In 16 games with UW, Landry was a key part of the Badgers' rotation, averaging 6.0 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15.4 minutes per game. Landry recorded season bests in points (19), rebounds (8) and minutes (32) in UW's second game of the season, a 95-89 overtime win over Eastern Kentucky in the Paradise Jam Tournament.

As an ineligible player, Landry may not travel with the team or compete in games, but he can practice with the team in Madison and can sit on the bench during home games. He also can continue to use the Badgers' training facilities, including the weight room and academic center.
