UW renews three coaches' contracts

The University of Wisconsin Athletic Board renewed three coaches' contracts Friday. The board added one year to volleyball coach Pete Waite's contract to restore it to a four-year agreement. The board renewed one-year contracts for women's soccer head coach Dean Duerst and men's soccer coach Jeff Rohrman.

Men's track: Badgers still ranked third

The Wisconsin men's track team retained its third-place ranking in the second Trackwire poll of the season. The Trackwire poll predicts how teams will finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships and their team points.

Wisconsin is picked to finish third with a projected 47 points, while Florida State and Arkansas are predicted to finish first and second, respectively. Texas and LSU rounded out the top five.

Men's tennis: Badgers exorcise Blue Demons

The Wisconsin men's tennis team downed DePaul 7-0 Wednesday afternoon in Madison at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Badgers (2-0 overall) have yet to lose a match in singles play.

All six Badgers won their singles matches against DePaul (1-3), led by sophomore Jeremy Sonkin, who defeated Gabe Inchauste 6-1, 6-2 at the top singles spot. Sophomore Nolan Polley defeated George Wang 6-4, 6-4 while playing at No. 2 singles for the first time. Sophomore Felipe Bellido easily knocked off Dan Wilson 6-0, 6-1.

Wisconsin won two of its three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Wins came at the top two doubles spots, with each team defeating its opponent 8-6.

Wisconsin gets an eight-day break before facing Loyola Marymount Feb. 2. The Badgers also have upcoming road matches at No. 9 Pepperdine, Western Michigan and No. 23 Notre Dame.

"It's important for the guys to build momentum before our trip to California," coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "(The win tonight) is another good win for us but I think we know that we have to keep raising our level every match from here on out."

Men's hockey: Jerseys to be auctioned off

The University of Wisconsin is auctioning off 25 authentic game-issued jerseys from the Badger men's hockey team's game at Lambeau Field Feb. 11. The auction opened Jan. 26 and concludes on Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. Central Standard Time. Each jersey will include a Certificate of Authenticity signed by hockey coach Mike Eaves and the member of the team who was issued the jersey.
