"I've been working hard all summer and all season and it's paying off," Southern said.
Southern's team is 17-3 and his regular-season finale is tonight before the playoffs get underway early next week.
Southern is looking forward to another go-around with the Michigan Mustangs – and a chance to go up against some of the top frontcourt guys who have received far more hype.
Southern said he is still open as far as the recruiting process is concerned, but lists Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin, Boston College, Wake Forest and Pittsburgh as the primary schools in the mix.
"I know it's going to take some time for me to get respect nationally," he said. "I know I just need to keep working hard. It's not really a big deal to me, though, because I'm still getting recruited."
