Simmons to attend Iowa City combine

Racine Park offensive lineman is receiving interest from several major conference programs

Matt Simmons will make his first unofficial visit of the spring this Friday, when he travels to Iowa City to take in the University of Iowa campus.

Simmons, a 6-foot-4, 320-pound class of 2007 offensive tackle prospect from Racine (Wis.) Park High School, will then stay in Iowa City for the Combine there Saturday.

Simmons, an all-state selection last fall, said in a telephone interview Tuesday night that Wisconsin, Auburn, LSU and Iowa are showing him the most interest. He is also receiving letters from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio State, Ball State, Illinois State and North Dakota State.

He has not made any decisions yet regarding summer football camps.

"I'm not sure yet, but if I do (go to camps) it would be the one-day camps," Simmons said. "The one-day showcases and stuff like that…

"Probably the Wisconsin one most likely. Michigan maybe. Maybe Iowa or something. Probably the ones that are closer."

Simmons is currently competing with Park's track team. He said his personal best in the shot put his season is 49-feet, 6-inches.

Saturday's Iowa City event will be Simmons's second Combine. At the San Antonio event in January, Simmons recorded a 5.87-second 40-yard dash, an 18.5-inch vertical jump and 15 reps on the bench press at 185 pounds.
