Thomas Merriweather update

St. Louis tailback prospect has at least five scholarship offers

Two months ago, St. Louis Hazelwood East High School tailback Thomas Merriweather listed Wisconsin among his three favorites. Now, however, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound class of 2007 prospect says the Badgers are not really recruiting him.

"They haven't really shown me much interest," Merriweather said in a telephone interview this week.

Merriweather claimed scholarship offers from major-conference programs Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, Nebraska and Missouri. In previous interviews with Scout.com, Merriweather has also reported an offer from Kansas State.

What other schools are showing Merriweather considerable interest?

"Iowa's been showing me some interest and Michigan State has too," he said. "I've been getting text messages from Michigan State."

Merriweather said he is interested in Iowa, Michigan State and the schools that have offered him, but he did not claim any favorites.

The schools that have made spring-evaluation visits to Hazelwood East have included Oklahoma State, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Michigan State.

"The only camp I'm planning on going to right now is Iowa," Merriweather said. "There are some others but I just haven't made my decision yet."

Merriweather scored a 17 on his ACT and has a 2.5 grade-point average. He will retake the ACT in June.
