Rouse has Wisconsin offer

The University of Wisconsin football program offered Joliet Catholic linebacker Kevin Rouse (6-foot-1, 220 pounds) this week, making the Badgers' the 17th team to join Rouse's ever-growing list of scholarship suitors.

Kevin Rouse, the No. 28 prospect in the Midwest according to Scout.com, received a scholarship offer from Wisconsin this week. Boston College could offer a scholarship as soon as next week.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pounder, from Joliet (Ill.) Catholic Academy now has 17 scholarship offers under his belt. Iowa, Northwestern and Wisconsin are probably the three schools to beat at this time.

Rouse had 90 tackles and 25 tackles for loss as a junior. He was an all-area selection.

At the Iowa City Scout.com Combine April 22, Rouse ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds, the 20-yard shuttle in 4.12 and the 3-cone in 7.06. He also posted a 32-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-2 broad jump.

Scout.com's Allen Wallace reported the following on Rouse in a May 30 Hot News:

Joliet Catholic Academy linebacker Kevin Rouse already has 16 offers, the first from Mississippi in February. He said he favors Northwestern over Iowa and both lead Iowa State, Minnesota and Pittsburgh — all have given him written offers.

Rouse, who is emphasizing academics as a decision factor, said he'd like to commit as early as August, before his season starts. "I'm also looking for a good coaching staff and to get on the field and play early," he said.

"I like Northwestern because of its academics and I think I could get the chance to play early there. I've already visited the campus (one hour and a half hours from home), three or four times now and I'm going again on Thursday (June 1). Coach (Pat) Fitzgerald (linebackers) is a great guy," Rouse said. "I have a friend that plays football at Northwestern and a buddy who's already committed to Iowa."

Rouse doesn't plan on attending any camps this summer. Instead, he plans to visit Iowa again — a campus he's also previously seen in person.

"I can always jump on a plane and be home within a few hours," he said, emphasizing that distance isn't a concern.

"Minnesota is recruiting me the hardest," Rouse said. "I know they really want me. I think they need help with linebackers. Their coaches have watched me lift and practice, and they call a lot."

He denies any parental preference but admits, "My mom is really religious — she wants me to go to a catholic school."

"I'm fast. I'm all over the field," Rouse said. "I plan to work on my coverage skills."

Rouse reports a bench press of 315 pounds, a 500-pound squat and a 34-inch vertical jump.

Rouse also reports a 3.2 core GPA and a 26 ACT score.
