Bentler looking for first offer

Davenport, Iowa (Assumption High School) offensive line prospect is receiving attention from several prominent programs. The 6-foot-5, 280-pounder discusses his spring unofficial visits and the schools that are showing interest in him.

Matt Bentler, a 6-foot-5, 280-pound class of 2007 offensive line prospect at Assumption High School in Davenport, Iowa, is receiving interest from several major-conference programs, but he does not yet have a scholarship offer.

In a telephone interview last week, Bentler said that Iowa State, Iowa and Stanford were among the programs that stopped by Assumption during the spring evaluation period. He is also receiving interest from Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Rutgers, among others.

"Right now I'm just looking to get an offer," Bentler said. "I'm looking everywhere. So we'll see what happens."

What kind of interest is Bentler receiving from the Badgers?

"They've shown me pretty good interest," he said. "I went up to their junior day a couple months ago. We'll see what happens."

Bentler has also made unofficial visits to Iowa State, Illinois and Stanford this year.

"The Wisconsin one went pretty good I thought," Bentler said. "I just went out there and was impressed with the facilities and… it is a nice campus.

"Iowa State… I like their facilities too. They were all pretty good. I enjoyed that.

"Illinois went well. They have pretty good facilities.

"And Stanford was really nice too… It was pretty good. It's California so it's pretty nice. Had a good time… I went up there for a weekend three weeks ago I think."

Bentler is undecided regarding his summer-camp plans.

"Right now I still haven't decided which ones I'm going to," he said. "I still have to make up my mind on that. I'm going to be going to a lot. But I still have to narrow it down and figure out what dates I'm going on. So I don't know."

Bentler has a 3.4 grade-point average and he scored a 25 on the ACT.

Matt's brother Ted Bentler spent the past two seasons at Iowa, but the defensive end, who will have sophomore eligibility in the fall, is in the process of transferring. Another brother, defensive end Fritz Bentler, will be a freshman at Army this fall.
