St. Francis RB discusses summer plans

James Thomas (5-foot-8, 215 pounds), the No. 18 class of 2007 prospect in the state of Wisconsin, according to, is receiving significant interest from several Midwest football programs.

For seniors-to-be such as James Thomas, a 5-foot-8, 215-pound tailback prospect at St. Francis (Wis.) High School, the summer camp season is an opportunity to show college football programs what they can do. But it also provides a chance to check out the schools and coaching staffs that have been showing a prospect considerable interest.

Such is the case with Thomas, who said in a telephone interview yesterday afternoon that Northern Illinois and Illinois State are showing him the most interest, but…

"I really don't know anything about them," Thomas said. "That's why I want to take a couple unofficial visits. I've been to Ball State, Wisconsin and I think that's it.

"Ball State is showing interest too and I really like their campus. It is real nice. And Wisconsin is Wisconsin. It's great. It's great up there."

What has Thomas been hearing from the Badgers?

"Nothing really," he replied. "Just basically word of mouth right now. I'm hearing that they like me through [teammate Josh Oglesby, who has verbally committed to Wisconsin]. I like them. Like I told you last time I grew up playing with the Badgers. My little league team was the Badgers. So I've always wanted to play for them."

Thomas is going to try to make it to a Minnesota camp today and he also hopes to attend camps at Northern Illinois, Ball State, Illinois State and Wisconsin "to show them basically what I can do and get a feel for it," he said.
