Nzegwu will stay home

Louis Nzegwu, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete at Platteville (Wis.) High School, is ready to make his verbal commitment, and soon will contact his future collegiate head coach to make that decision formal.

Scout.com three-star prospect Louis Nzegwu, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete from Platteville, Wis., is all set to give his verbal commitment to play for the Wisconsin Badgers.

"I am going to be calling coach (Bret) Bielema tonight and commit to Wisconsin," Nzegwu reported. "The school is close to my home and I like what I saw of the campus on my visit to the spring game."

[Update: Nzegwu spoke with Badger Nation Saturday night and said that he had not yet had the opportunity to talk to Bielema and formally commit, but he planned to try again Sunday.]

"I also had a really good experience at the senior camp I went to," Nzegwu said. "I had the opportunity to go up against guys like Josh Oglesby. We did not get to talk about recruiting too much, because they were there for only one session."

As a junior, Nzegwu was a second-team All-Southwest Wisconsin Conference player at running back, but he is looking to play defense for the Badgers.

"They gave me an offer as an athlete, but I really think that I will be playing as a defensive end or as a linebacker in college," Nzegwu said.

He rushed for 1,607 yards and 16 touchdowns on 250 carries, and returned eight kicks for 323 yards during his junior campaign.
