John Stocco Speaks

It was media day for the football Badgers and BN's Zach Heilprin was there. In the first of over 30 player interviews BadgerNation catches up with Senior QB John Stocco.

On the new faces in camp: Its been a little bit different, we got a lot of new faces on offense but I think there is a lot to be excited about. A lot of younger guys can do a lot of good things for us and we just want to make sure they are going to be doing it on a consistent basis, but I like what I've seen the first couple days.

Talking about the different types of players on offense: Well I think we have a bunch of different types of players. I mean if you are just talking running back we got guys like Jamil Walker. He's big, strong, and fast. He's been in the program for a few years and he can do everything for you. You got a guy like PJ Hill who's big, he runs people over and really finishes well. You got other guys like Jerry Butler who's really fast, so I mean we have a lot of different guys that can do a lot of different things for us.

On whether he talks to the other returning QB's in the Big Ten: Not really but I think we are aware of it and I think its exciting that we have some of the best quarterbacks in the country and I just looking forward to playing against them. It should be a lot of fun.

On whether he thinks this is his team: I think so. Well not just mine but being one the leaders returning and going into my senior year I think I am more of leader this year. As a quarterback you have to be a leader naturally and I think the experience I have will help us out a lot.

On how he has handled the media and fans reaction towards his play the past few years: ...I just think it comes with the territory of playing QB. You are in the spotlight, you are under the microscope everything you do, every time you make a mistake its amplified. I think it just comes with the territory and after you experience it a while its not a big deal anymore. I can just laugh at a lot of it now looking back, but it just comes with the territory.

On having won 19 games over the past two years: Its nice but I think its just a reflection of the team. I've been fortunate to have some great players around me to play with, and some great coaches. I think just the fact that we've been successful as a team has really been great.

On Coach Bret Bielema as a head coach. I think he's been doing a great job so far. He really is a good leader and good coach. You can tell he really knows how to be successful. He's coached with some really great coaches in the past and now this is his show. He's gonna do things how he wants to do it but I think he's done a great job so far.

On the difference between this year and his first year at Wisconsin. It night and day. Coming in here as a freshmen and then my first year starting, just not having that experience is kind of tough to deal with at first but now I have a lot of game experience. I've been around for a few years and I think I've changed a lot, both on the field and off the field and hopefully that's gonna help us out.

On being a coach on the field and helping the younger guys: I'll help out the younger guys but at the same time I still have a lot I need to improve on and lot that I need to work on and get better at still. I'm just trying to do that and help the younger guys along the way.
