Top 50 Badgers

Who are the top Wisconsin Badger football players of the last 30 years? Find out where your favorite players rank in this look back at Badgers history. Today, we look at the players who made honorable mention, but couldn't quite crack the top 50.

Tim Jordan-LB-(1982-86)-Jordan was one of the better pass rushers from his OLB position in Badger history. He ranks 4th in sacks with 27. His total of 11 sacks in 1985 ranks as the 4th highest in a season and he holds the single game record with 6 sacks against Northwestern. Jordan was drafted by the New England Patriots and had a brief NFL career.

Dennis Stejskal-DE-(1975-77)- Stejskal was first team All-Big Ten in 1977. He ranks 20th all-time in tackles at Wisconsin (283), with a high of 111 in 1975. He made 23 tackles in one game in 1975 against Purdue. He is third all-time in tackles by a lineman.

Michael Roan-TE-(1991-94)-Roan was All-Big Ten in 1993 and ranks as one of the best TEs in team history. He ranks 18th on the all-time receiving yards list with 980 career yards on 92 catches which ranks in the top 15. He went on to play NFL football with Houston/Tennessee.

Mike Samuel-QB-(1995-1998)-What can you say about Samuel other than the guy just knew how to win (27 wins as a starter). He also ranks 4th on the all time total yardage list (5750) and 5th on the all-time passing yardage list with 4989 yards.

Matt Bernstein-FB-(2002-2005)-Matt Bernstein was a four year starter at fullback before an injury ended his senior year prematurely. Bernstein was an emotional leader on his Badger teams and while his numbers are modest, his contributions as a devastating blocker and effective receiver cannot be denied. And who can forget his 100+ yard game against PSU when pressed into emergency duty.

Jason Doering-S-(1997-2000)-This former walk-on was a four year starter and garnered All-Big Ten mention two times (and it would have been three if not for injuries as a senior). He was a 2-time team captain and ranks 3rd all-time at Wisconsin in tackles by a DB with 338. He goes down as perhaps the surest tackler in recent Badger history.

Scott Starks-CB-(2001-04)-Starks was a four year starter, starting 48 games for the Badgers. He was named All-Big Ten following the 2004 season as well as team MVP. Starks ranks 3rd all-time in passes defended (52).

Dave Ahrens-LB-(1977-1980)-Ahrens was the team MVP in 1980 before going on to a surprisingly long NFL career. He ranks 22nd on the all-time tackle list with 280 and 5th on the all-time list for tackles for losses (43), including notching 18 in 1980. He is also 3rd in career fumble recoveries with 6.

Larry Emery-RB-(1983-86)-Emery was the team MVP in 1985 and is 7th on the UW rushing list with 2,979 yards while scoring 19 career TDs. His yards per carry is 6th all-time at 5.12. Twice Larry topped the 180 yard mark in a game and he topped the 100 yard mark 15 times as a Badger.
