Big Ben Hates Non-Conference

After two weeks of average games, BW is convinced that this week will be no different, filled with blowouts and yawners, unless you are from South Bend.

Going from 8-3 in week one to 9-2 in week two isn't too shabby. Is 10-1 in the future for this week? No way! This senior contributor has his sights on a perfect record … and 10 hours of sleep.

Syracuse @ Illinois

Hmm. Illinois is bad, but Syracuse is even worse. Syracuse almost beat Iowa. Illinois couldn't beat their way out of a paper bag against Rutgers. But hey, Illinois is undefeated at home. But, they have a racist mascot and everybody loves oranges. Go Cuse 31-20

Michigan State @ Pittsburgh

Drew Stanton and the Spartans are on fire this season. Pittsburgh is 1-0 in conference, but they beat a dismal Cincinnati team at home. Unless Wannstedt can find some magic in that creepy moustache of his, Sparty moves to 3-0. Michigan State 30-17

Cincinnati @ Ohio State

Ohio State is the number one team in the nation for a reason. Cincinnati, as I said above, is dismal. Unless Ohio State's cheerleaders play for all four quarters, Buckeyes retain their No.1 ranking. Ohio State 35-7

Iowa State @ Iowa

Iowa State beat the archrival Hawkeyes a year ago in Ames. Iowa was lucky to escape Syracuse with a win and no permanent damage to their stud QB Drew Tate. Tate is healthy, the Hawkeyes got their wakeup call and they get revenge on the Cyclones. Iowa 27-17

Ball State @ Purdue

Ball State has played every team tough, beating Eastern Michigan by 18 and losing to Indiana by one. Purdue is 2-0 based on their offense scoring an average of 49 points a week. Since Ball State offense isn't that productive and the Boilermakers will prevail in a shootout. Purdue 42-31

Eastern Michigan @ Northwestern

This would be the one game a week I really don't want to pick. It all depends which Northwestern team shows up. The bad one that struggled to beat Miami (OH) or the really bad one that lost to Division I-AA New Hampshire. This week, the bad team shows up and Eastern Michigan gets loss number three. Northwestern 24-20

Temple @ Minnesota

I may be tired, but there's no way I'd pick Temple in any match up. Glen Mason himself could play all 22 positions on offense and defense and still beat the Owls. Minnesota 56-3

San Diego State @ Wisconsin

Wisconsin played poorly against Western Illinois and the Aztecs have a week off to prepare. Still, I think the Badger defense is one of the best in the conference and will shut down San Diego's potent offense. Besides, you can't stop P.J. Hill; you can only hope to contain him!!Wisconsin 28-10

Youngstown St @ Penn State

Joe Pa was embarrassed in South Bend last weekend against a better Notre Dame team. Make no mistake about it, Joe Pa is old, he's tired and he's pissed. Penn State and the Nittany Lions have Penguins for lunch. Penn State 41-13

Michigan @ Notre Dame

Notre Dame is for real, Michigan isn't. Notre Dame has beaten two legitimate non-conference opponents; Michigan hasn't left its home state. Brady Quinn is a consistent solid quarterback; Chad Henne simply hasn't been that impressive so far this season. Notre Dame keeps rolling. Notre Dame 27-14

Southern Illinois @ Indiana

Call me crazy, but I like Southern Illinois in this match up. They beat Lock Haven 49-0 based on a solid running attack. Indiana has struggled against the run in recent weeks and since I am tired, this is the UPSET SPECIAL! Southern Illinois 35-26
