Terry Love, a 5-foot-11, 168-pound, wide receiver, from Maywood (Ill) Proviso East already has a scholarship from Illinois and he'll be getting second scholarship offer this week from a very special guest.
Wisconsin Badger head coach Barry Alvarez is making his way around Illinois this week taking a look at some of the top talent in the Land of Lincoln. There are a hand-full of prospects in Illinois that Alvarez would love to have in Madtown.
The Badgers have already offered Naperville North linebacker Cory McKeon and Downers Grove South offensive lineman Martin "Big Nasty" O'Donnell.
Coach Alvarez will be in Maywood this week to see wide receiver Terry Love and he's expected to offer the speedster a scholarship.
"I was told that Coach (Alvarez) was coming in this week." Love said. "I heard he was going to offer me a scholarship but we'll have to wait and see. I'd love to attend Wisconsin.
"Michigan State is another school I like a lot. I had a good visit up there for the Nike Camp and I really liked the campus. The coach that's recruiting me from Michigan State (Danny Crossman) is really cool.
"I'd have to say that Illinois is my leader right now just because they have done the best job so far of recruiting me. You can take Tennessee off of my favorites and add Michigan State. I also like Notre Dame, Florida and UCLA."
Terry Love had 1,175 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns as a junior. He had 20 solo tackles and an interception from his defensive back position.
August 7, 2002 – Terry Love Update
"Terry has offers from Illinois, Wisconsin and Ball State." Said Terry Love Sr. "Penn State said they were going to offer him as well.
"He's going to take his time with this (recruiting) and take some visits. He wants to make sure he sees everything and gets everything in order.
"Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame, UCLA, Purdue, Penn State and Ball State are the schools that he's looking at right now."
Right now this seems like a tug of war between Wisconsin and Illinois. We feel that Love will receive more offers during and after the season which will make his decision that much tougher.
Love went down the University of Illinois yesterday to take in a freshman practice. Terry is a good friend of incoming Fighting Illini quarterback Tim Brasic. Will this friendship be enough to pull the Illini in front of the others vying for his services?
