Sioux-eeeee! Badgers Sweep

Wisconsin's two senior leaders, Ross Carlson and Jake Dowell, both score two goals and the Badgers earn their first series sweep of season by ousting North Dakota.

GRAND FORKS, ND- With two goals from both Jake Dowell and Ross Carlson, the Badger men's hockey team topped North Dakota 4-2. The sweep marks the first time in team history that the Badgers have swept the Fighting Sioux in Grand Forks in consecutive years.

Wisconsin won their third straight game to improve to (7-9-2, 5-6-1 WCHA) heading into the semester break.

Carlson scored the game winner in the third period, and later notched an empty net goal to secure the win. Carlson also added an assist on each of Dowell's goals.

UW goalie Brian Elliott only gave up two goals, improving his record to 5-6-1 in conference play. Elliott recorded 29 saves to lead the Badger defense in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Fighting Sioux gained the early 1-0 lead as Brad Miller scored on UND's first power play 1:34 into the first period. Dowell evened the score at the 13:02 mark of the first on a Badger power play with assists from Jamie McBain and Carlson.

North Dakota scored the only goal of the second frame as Robbie Bina gave the Sioux the 2-1 lead heading into the final period.

Dowell notched his second power play goal of the night with just under five minutes to play tying the game 2-2. Carlson then sealed the game at the 16:29 mark of the third with helpers from Dowell and Andrew Joudrey.

With less than two minutes to play UND pulled goalie Philippe Lamoureux in a last effort to tie the game. Carlson was able to find the puck and score the insurance goal on the empty at the 18:39 mark.

The Badgers ended the night 2-for-5 on the power play, while UND finished 1-for-5. Lamoureux recorded 26 saves as the Sioux fell to (7-8-1, 5-6-1 WCHA).

The Badgers return to action Dec. 29-30 in the 18th annual Badger Hockey Showdown.
