MADISON, Wis. – Two of Wisconsin's starters on offense have been named to prestigious preseason awards "watch lists."
Senior Brooks Bollinger is one of 32 quarterbacks on the Davey O'Brien Award's preseason list. The award goes to the nation's top quarterback. Bollinger will start the 2002 season in need of five victories to tie for the school's career wins record (27).
Sophomore Anthony Davis, a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award (nation's top running back) last season, is one of 42 players on that award's preseason list of candidates. Davis was the 2001 Big Ten Freshman of the Year after leading the conference in rushing with 1,466 yards. He set the NCAA record for 100-yard games by a freshman with 10.
The Badgers, of course, open the regular season Friday night at Camp Randall Stadium against Fresno State. Kickoff is 7:05 p.m. CDT.
