Class of 2008 update - MN F Jared Berggren

Princeton, Minnesota basketball player Jared Berggren is making progress on and off the court. Not only has he received offers from Big Ten, Big 12, and Conference USA schools, he has taken care of business in the classroom. Read this update on his future and about the schools fighting for his services.

The recruiting game is fun. Just ask Princeton, Minnesota basketball player Jared Berggren.

"It is fun to hear from all of the college." Berggren said. "I really enjoy meeting the players and coaches from the schools. It is a great thing."

Berggren is one of the better players in the state of Minnesota. The Class of 2008 prospect is being courted by some pretty good schools, also: Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa State, and Wisconsin have all offered the versatile big man.

Purdue: "The coaching staff is great. Coach Painter is doing a lot of good things. I hope to get a visit there soon. They were the first school to really come after me, so that is going to be a key."

Iowa State: "Coach McDermott and Coach Rutter are really nice guys. I visited there and got to meet some of the guys. We went to a football game and those fans are nuts in Iowa. I love the atmosphere there (in Ames) and I hope to get to a game down there this winter."

Minnesota: "I have been there for a couple of games. Being the home team, the in state team, is something you have got to keep in mind."

Wisconsin: "They are a winning program, that is for sure. I feel very comfortable with Coach Ryan and Coach Donovan. I have been there for a football game and hung out with the players. I met (Joe) Krabbenhoft, (Jason) Bohannon, (Greg) Stiemsma, and (Travon) Hughes. I really liked them all a lot. Hughes and Bohannon are guys I would be playing with and that would be fun."

Each of those schools have offered a scholarship, with Wisconsin being the first school to do so. It is not surprising when you consider his attributes.

"I feel that I have good size and good touch around the rim." Berggren said. "I am a shot blocker and a rebounded, but I also like to step out and knock down the three. I am a Brian Butch type of player."

Jared says he hopes to make a decision on his future during this season, hopefully. He has already taken the ACT and earned a 24. "The math was tough. I had not taken a math class in a while and it shows." He said, laughing. will continue to keep you updated on his progress.
