Women's Basketball - Ready to Make a Run

Returning every player from a record-setting 23-win season (23-13) and runner-up finish in the WNIT Tournament, the team's first post season play since 2002, the Badger women look to make a big impression in 2007.

MADISON - The Wisconsin women's basketball team will play eight home games including its two exhibitions during the non-conference portion of its schedule announced today. The Badgers' conference schedule will be announced by the Big Ten later this summer.

The Badgers begin the season in an exhibition game with two Division 3 opponents. UW meets St. Norbert on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. UW concludes the exhibition slate by hosting UW-Stout Sunday at 1 p.m. This is the first meeting for Wisconsin with both St. Norbert and UW-Stout.

By adding two more Big Ten opponents to the schedule this year, the Badgers play two fewer non-conference opponents, but will have 17 total home games. Wisconsin opens the regular season on the road at Cleveland State on Friday, Nov. 9. The Badgers visit Marquette in Milwaukee on Saturday, Nov. 17, then host Wyoming on Tues. Nov. 20 in a re-match of last season's 72-56 WNIT Championship loss in Laramie.

The Badgers will spend Thanksgiving in Malibu, Calif. at the Pepperdine Thanksgiving Tournament. The tournament also includes Mississippi and Texas-Arlington, both NCAA qualifiers last year. Wisconsin's first round opponent will be Mississippi which had a record run in the tournament appearing in the Elite 8.

Wisconsin concludes its non-conference road schedule with the ACC Challenge. The Badgers meet Virginia in Charlottesville on Friday, Nov. 30. Wisconsin came back from a 14 point deficit in the quarterfinals of the WNIT Tournament to beat the Cavaliers, 84-78, in Madison last March.

The Badgers return for five-straight home games in December beginning Sunday, Dec. 2 with IPFW (Indiana Purdue-Ft. Wayne). UW hosts UW-Milwaukee Dec. 4, and Air Force on Saturday, Dec. 8. The Badgers play their third in-state D-1 opponent by hosting UW-Green Bay on Tuesday, Dec. 11, then host South Dakota on Friday, Dec. 14 before breaking for finals and the holidays.

Wisconsin returns everyone from a record-setting 23-win season (23-13) and runner-up finish in the WNIT Tournament, the team's first post season play since 2002. Fresh off a third-straight gold medal performance with USA Basketball, senior Jolene Anderson was the top scorer in the Big Ten Conference last season with 19.3 points per game. She returns as a leading contender for conference player of the year.

Conference games and television coverage will be announced when the Big Ten Conference office releases the remainder of the Badgers' schedule later in August. Season tickets for the women's basketball team go on-sale Monday, Aug. 13.
