The Wolverines just received a commitment from one of the nation's top talents. Will Paul, from Ballwin (Mo.) Parkway West High School, committed to Michigan Head Coach Lloyd Carr Tuesday afternoon.
"He was real pleased and excited," said Paul. "I am pretty excited myself. Michigan has great academics and tradition. I love the coaches and they really bond with the players extremely well. The team has unity. This is something I have been thinking about for a long time and I just decided that today was the day. Illinois made it tough but I did what was best for me."
Paul, 6-4 and 257 pounds, is rated as the number two (5 stars) tight end in the nation according to TheInsiders.com. This season, he is actually playing fullback and defensive end. At Michigan, Paul will play defense.
"I am real excited to play defensive end at Michigan. I think their scheme fits me well." Last season as a junior, Paul caught 25 passes for 289 yards and scored four touchdowns. He also rushed the ball 29 times for 155 yards and 3 scores. Defensively, Paul recorded 60 tackles, 5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss. He is also his team's punter and he averaged 38 per kick.
Paul has all the tools to be a super college player on either side of the ball as a tight end or defensive lineman. Offensively, he is a tremendous blocker that uses his footwork and strength to dominate the competition. Paul is an excellent receiver with consistent hands. He often leaves his feet to make the circus catch. Paul has good concentration and he finds the open space in the defense.
Once he gets the ball, Paul is very tough to bring down because of his excellent speed and overwhelming power. Defensively, Paul has all the instincts to play defensive end or tackle at the next level. He can rush the passer via the bull or speed rush. Paul is aggressive and physical and shows super speed in pursuit. He is one of the most impressive prospects I have seen on film so far this season. Paul could be an excellent college player on either side of the ball at Michigan.
