Wisconsin jumped on the board first when senior Taylor Walsh recorded her first goal of the season after she beat the keeper from the post on the left side to bury the ball deep into the net.
UCSB answered with just 15 seconds left in the half to tie the game going into the break. Romy Barber shot a deflected ball past Klages with an assist from Kandice Mclaughlin. The deflected ball caused the keeper to move out of position leaving an opening in the left side of the net for the opponents to score.
Badger midfielder Krista Liskevych earned a scoring opportunity with a free kick in the 58th minute. With the ball placed just outside the top of the box, the Gauchos defenders blocked Liskevych's attempt.
Jacqui Simon missed a free kick for UCSB in the 67th minute of play. Just seconds later Kathleen Prieto was given a penalty kick at the top of the box. Simon's kick landed in the right side of the net with Klages unable to defend the kick, giving the Gauchos a 2-1 lead.
Wisconsin responded in the 70th minute when defenseman Terry headed the ball past keeper Wright evening the score. The header was Terry's first career goal, Owusu's first career assist and Eshun's 11th career assist. It was the first assist of the season for both players.
Just moments later, senior Tricia Krombach beat a Gaucho defender and dished the ball to Terry who was positioned in front of the net. Terry tallied the game-winning goal for the Badgers, her second of the game and of her career.
Wisconsin out-shot UCSB 13-to-9, with each team putting seven shots-on-goal in the second half. UW had six corner kicks in the game while UC Santa Barbara took four.
Wisconsin netminder Klages recorded her first win as a Badger, tallying one save in the match. UCSB goaltender Wright totaled four saves in the game.
The first game on Sunday will begin at 11 a.m. when the UW-Milwaukee Panthers take on the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. The Badgers wrap up their weekend at 2 p.m. Sept. 9 when they go head-to-head with Boston University. The game will be featured on the new Big Ten Network. On Monday, Sept. 10, the match will replay on the BTN at 7 p.m. and midnight.
