Coach Barry Alvarez Addresses Students

Coach Barry Alvarez addressed the student ticket holders Thursday, praising them for their enthusiasm this season, but asking one favor.

Here is the message Coach Barry Alvarez sent to student season ticket holders Thursday:

Dear student season ticket holder,

Last week, the Indianapolis Star reviewed game-day atmospheres at all Big Ten football stadiums. The newspaper ranked Camp Randall Stadium as the best game-day atmosphere in the Big Ten, citing among other factors, the student section's enthusiasm and support.

I couldn't agree more with that assessment. You've had a great impact on our team's efforts during our undefeated non-conference season. But Saturday, we begin the difficult Big Ten Conference season against Penn State, and now more than ever, we need your continued support.

So far, you've been loud. You've been attentive. You've been intimidating to the visiting team. In short, you've been a factor.

I am asking you to consider eliminating the one cheer that has been offensive to a number of people that attend our games, especially those with young children. Your actions in the student section set the tone for our game-day atmosphere, and the rest of the stadium feeds off your enthusiasm.

Be loud. Be creative. Be a part of the game. Be classy. That's the type of behavior that earned our reputation as 'best game-day atmosphere in the Big Ten.

This week's game starts at 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast by ABC. Be sure to get your ankles taped and get into Camp Randall early, prepared to be our 12th man.

On behalf of our players, coaches and administration - thank you for your continued support of Wisconsin Athletics.

You are the Best! Just ask the Indianapolis Star. On Wisconsin!
