Junior DB Likes The Badgers

Alex McNulty, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound, safety, from Bolingbrook, Ill., will be getting the attention of college recruiters next spring. McNulty is a physical defensive back that loves to hit and he's being coached in the secondary by former Bolingbrook and University of Michigan cornerback Todd Howard.

"Alex McNulty is going to play college football," said Bolingbrook coach, John Ivlow.

"Alex is going to have good game film and he's a hitter. If he wants to play in the Big Ten, he needs to work on his straight-line speed.

"Alex is our toughest defensive back so we played him a lot at strong safety and outside linebacker.

"I like him (McNulty) as a strong safety in college because of his striking ability. College coaches may not think he's tall enough but heck Bob Sanders wasn't very tall either."

McNulty had a solid junior season and several schools have already started to contact Alex via mail. We asked Alex if he could talk about his junior season.

"The coaches here have a lot of faith in me," said McNulty.

"I've started every game as a junior. I try to make every tackle and get to the ball on every play.

"My best game was against Bradley. I had a bunch of big hits in the Bradley game, 12 tackles and I had a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown called back by a penalty."

McNulty also talked about having a guy like Todd Howard, who knows what it takes to play defensive back at the next level as his coach.

"It's just love because Coach Howard is such a great teacher and motivator." McNulty said.

"All the things that I want to do and accomplish, Coach Howard has already done. When Coach Howard speaks and teaches, we all listen with the up most respect.

"Coach Howard teaches us to be aggressive. He teaches us how to watch the receiver's feet and body language. It's great to learn from someone that has the experience like Coach Howard."

McNulty is beginning to buckle down on the books and in the weight-room and now he's turning his attention to recruiting.

"I like Notre Dame a lot and I went to South Bend for a game this year." McNulty said.

"Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State are also some of my favorites. LSU and Florida would also be a few dream schools."

Look for McNulty to attend several camps, combines and recruiting show-cases next spring and summer.
