Focus 2009 - DB/FB Mike Bushnell

Mike Bushnell, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound, standout, from Tinley Park (Ill.) Andrew, is going to be a prospect to watch in 2008. Bushnell will be a three-year varsity starter on both sides of the football and he earned all-area and all-conference honors as a junior.

"Mike Bushnell starts at inside linebacker and fullback for us at Andrew but I feel he'll be a strong safety at the next level." Andrew head coach Jim Zimmer said.

"Mike was the best player on our team as a sophomore and as a junior. He's a great kid, very coachable and the upperclassmen look up to him for leadership. Great character young man and also an outstanding student, Mike Bushnell is the ultimate student-athlete."

The T-Bolts finished the 2007 season with a record of 8-3. Bushnell had 108 total tackles and 55 solos. From his fullback position, he rushed for 216 yards on 40 attempts, scoring four touchdowns.

We asked Bushnell which schools have begun to contact him.

"Northwestern is a school that sends me regular mail," he said. "I'm getting a lot of the early questionnaires as well. Schools are starting to ask if I'd come to their junior days, stuff like that.

"My early favorites are Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan and Eastern Illinois.

"I plan on going to some camps and combines in the spring and summer. I haven't discussed exactly which camps and combines but I want to get out there and compete."

Bushnell also letters in baseball for Andrew High School. He carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom.
