Focus 2009 - QB Dan Burkett

A quarterback needs to have intelligence and that won't be a problem for Neenah, Wis., junior signal caller Dan Burkett. Burkett carries a 3.96 GPA in the classroom and scored a 29 on his ACT….as a freshman. Burkett isn't a shabby football player either, setting a couple of school records in 2007.

"I threw for 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns my junior season," Dan Burkett said. "I had a couple of school records. I think my total yards and completion percentage are school records at Neenah."

Burkett (6-2, 190) isn't new to the camp and combine scene and he's preparing now for the U.S. Army Junior Combine that will be held on Jan. 4 in San Antonio.

"Yes, I've been invited to participate in the (U.S. Army) combine in San Antonio and I'm going down there for sure. It's an invitation only combine and I'm sure the best of the best will be down there so it will be good to see how I measure up.

"I went to the Air & QBU Camp last year in California and I'm going again this year in Arizona and Chicago. I'll also look at a few more camps and combines to hit."

Which schools have made early contact with Burkett?

"I don't have any scholarship offers," he said. "Alabama, Wisconsin, Purdue and Northwestern have all been sending steady mail. I went to a game this past year at Northwestern.

"I'd say the four schools that I just mentioned and I'd throw Louisville in there right now. Those five schools are my favorites at this point. I'd like to see how things go in the spring and summer before I name any other schools."

Neenah finished the season with a 4-5 record, losing their starting middle linebacker and starting tailback to injuries early in the season.
