RB Erik Smith - Senior Video

As signing day approaches, it looks more and more like Erik Smith will be the only running back to sign with the Badgers on Feb. 6. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder, from Bolingbrook, Ill., took the time to talk to Badger Nation about is future in Madison and other topics.

"Right now I plan on signing my letter of intent at my school," Erik Smith told Badger Nation.

"I really don't have anything big planned right now. I'm sure my family and coaches will all be with me on signing day."

Smith was one of the first running back prospects offered by Wisconsin and Erik committed to Coach Bielema this past summer. There's been a lot of talk about Smith playing different positions once he arrives on campus in five months.

"The coaches have always told me that they are recruiting me as a running back." Smith said.

"I do have good hands and Coach Bielema has talked about me catching the football and using my strengths but I haven't heard anything about wide receiver or defensive back.

"I was hearing some things about special teams and that could happen but Gilreath is already back there returning punts and kicks so who knows.

"What I plan on doing is coming in and working hard. Learning the offense and listening to the upper classmen. If things work out that I get on the field, that's great. I no this all sounds cliché but I just want to come in and give the best effort I can everyday."

Smith finished his season with 1400 rushing yards. Hit the link below to see the first of three sets of highlights from Erik Smith's senior season.
