Badgers Get Named for Preseason Awards

Eight offensive and seven defensive Badger players get recognized by the national media as the 2008 season draws closer.

MADISON - As college football season grows closer, one of the nation's most popular preview magazines, Phil Steele's 2008 College Football Preview has named four Badgers to its Preseason All-American Teams and 15 to one of its four All-Big Ten Teams.

TE Travis Beckum was named second-team All-American, while OL Kraig Urbik, DL Matt Shaughnessy and PR David Gilreath were all listed on Steele's fourth-team All-American.

Eight offensive players and seven defensive players were listed on the four Preseason All-Big Ten Teams. Beckum, Urbik and Gilreath (punt returner) were all listed on the Big Ten's first-team. RB P.J. Hill, OL Eric Vanden Heuvel, DL Matt Shaughnessy, LB Jonathan Casillas, LB DeAndre Levy and DB Shane Carter made the second-team All-Big Ten. The third-team consisted of WR Kyle Jefferson, OL Andy Kemp and OL Gabe Carimi. TE Garrett Graham, LB Elijah Hodge, DB Allen Langford and Gilreath, listed as a kick returner, was listed on the fourth-team All-Big Ten.

Phil Steele has the Badgers ranked as the No. 21 team in the nation entering the 2008 season. Last year the Badgers were ranked as high as fifth, but finished the season as the No. 21/24 team.

Wisconsin opens its season on August 30 at Camp Randall Stadium against the Akron Zips.
