In an interview conducted for a story to appear in the January edition of Badger Nation Magazine, Quarterbacks Coach Jeff Horton revealed that Jim Sorgi will be named the starter entering spring football.
There has been a lot of talk about whether Owen Daniels, John Stocco or Matt Schabert could challenge for the spot, but Horton said when spring football begins, Sorgi will be the man.
"Sorgi is my starting quarterback," Horton said. "Hopefully from the day the bowl game is over, I anticipate him being a great leader...I look forward to him knowing he's the guy, and seeing how far he can really take it."
Horton broke down the quarterback situation, including who he views as the leader(s) for the No. 2 spot, which will be included in the article.
He said while Sorgi is being named the starter for now, that does not guarantee he will be the man next fall. Sorgi will have to continue to progress and prove he's the best player for the job.
"Jim will be the No. 1 guy coming in. He's earned that spot," Horton said. "But there will be good competition. He still has to perform. Now that he is the No. 1 guy, he has to prove that he can do it day in and day out, be a great leader."
