Minnesota State (14-15-5, 10-13-3 WCHA) found the net first tonight, scoring a goal in the first period, and early in the second period. Wisconsin (16-14-4, 13-10-2 WCHA) scored three consecutive goals in the second period to take the lead before the conclusion of the period. MSU tied up the game midway through the third period to send the game into overtime and set the score at 3-3.
Minnesota State found the scoreboard first with 7:13 left in the first period. Kael Mouillierat scored a backdoor power-play goal on senior Shane Connelly for the 1-0 lead.
The Mavericks expanded their lead to two 5:14 into the second period. Trevor Bruess scored the goal for MSU with assists from Mouillierat and Geoff Irwin.
The Badgers found the scoreboard in the beginning of the second period. Sophomore Ryan McDonagh skated down the middle of the ice, stopped short just inside the blue line, and shot after everyone skated past. Junior Michael Davies followed up McDonagh's shot and tapped the puck into the empty net to make it 2-1. Junior Andy Bohmbach also recorded an assist on the play.
Gorowsky posted a third Badgers goal a minute later. He ripped a one-timer off a pass from McDonagh along the boards. Stepan also recorded an assist.
The Mavericks tied it up with 9:34 left in the third period. Rylan Galiardi hit he far upper corner to draw even at three with UW.
