"Right now I'm doing lifting camps and conditioning drills and have been doing shot put and disc for the track and field team," said Eggen.
Ranked the three-star prospect and the 49th tackle in the nation by Scout.com, Eggen, who already has scholarship offers from, Illinois State, Marshall, North Dakota, North Dakota State and Western Michigan, has three favorites as of now and they all come from the Big Ten.
"I like Michigan State because of the nice facilities, Minnesota because of their new stadium and how the campus is and Wisconsin because its where I'm from and I like the campus," he said. "They all offer great educational opportunities."
Eggen still has visits planned for schools outside of the Big Ten, which include Iowa State, Northern Iowa and Nebraska. Eggen feels that any school that obtains his commitment will be getting a player that's not only physical, but has the smarts to know what his role is on each play.
The Badgers are an important school to him and Eggen knows which area he could help them the most.
"I would be able to help out most on the offensive line for run blocking and pass blocking and blowing people off the line," said Eggen.
His plans for the future include attending a few camps and making some more visits to schools to keep his options open. Also Eggen wants to improve his strength and speed so it's at a college level for him to compete.
"Strength and speed is such a big jump to the next level and I will be going against players that have three to four years experience at the college level," Eggen said. "I have been involved with a college lifting program the past three years."
Eggen plans to make a commitment to a school before his senior season. Eggen's choice will be solely made by which school is the best fit for him. Whether its in the Big Ten or not, be on alert for a possible force at the college level in Matt Eggen.
