Updated: Blue Back on the Market?

One of the prized prospects for Wisconsin's 2010 recruiting class might not be a Badger recruit anymore. While some sources tell Badger Nation that Madison Memorial junior Vander Blue will open his recruitment back up and take a look at schools like Louisville and Marquette, sources from the Wisconsin camp have not received any word from Blue to take these reports seriously.

MADISON - This news has the potential to send Wisconsin-Marquette rivalry to a whole new level.

After giving his verbal commitment to assistant coach Howard Moore and the Wisconsin coaching staff on April 29, 2008, picking the Badgers over strong interest from Indiana, Kentucky and Marquette, sources informed Badger Nation that junior Vander Blue came to a decision Monday to reopen his recruiting.

The news of Blue's de-commitment first started circling with the junior guard mentioned on his Facebook page that he, "made a big decision for me today ... now I'm going to really take in this recruiting process..." He did not specify what that decision was.

As reported by other news outlets and also told to Badger Nation, the Wisconsin coaches have not been told by Blue that he was de-committing, reopening his recruitment or taking other visits. One person within the program said, "As far as I am concerned, Vander Blue is still committed to Wisconsin."

The UW coaches have not talked to Blue since this is a quiet period for recruiting, meaning communication between coaches and recruits is supposed to be very limited. Wisconsin assistant coach Howard Moore is Blue's recruiting coach, but he can not publicly comment on Blue until after the recruit signs his national letter of intent in the fall.

Attempts to contact Blue this evening was unsuccessful, as an automated message told callers he was not accepting calls at this time.

After averaging 12.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as a sophomore for Madison Memorial, Blue one upped his game his junior year, averaging 17 points per game and leading his team to the WIAA Division 1 State Title.

Last weekend at the Wisconsin AAU District Championships, Blue scored from all over the court; hitting threes, mid-range jumpers and chipping in with points in paint.

Although it's unknown whether Blue has ruled out Wisconsin completely, one source indicated that Blue is doing his due diligence and taking a closer look at schools, one of which is Marquette where former Memorial teammate, and good friend, Jeronne Maymon is set to play next season.

"They were the first school to show me to love and ever since then, my relationship with Howard (Moore) and Bo (Ryan) went off the charts," Blue told Badger Nation when he committed to Wisconsin. "They know about my life, background and my family. Ever since they offered, I have a real good feeling in mind that I was going to go to Wisconsin. A degree from Wisconsin is going to look good."

Whether Blue will still get that Wisconsin degree remains to be seen. We'll have more on this story as it develops.
