Brown Names Top Three

Looking for a solid football program that has solid academics, Charlotte (N.C.) outside linebacker Kelby Brown is done with his camps and his visits, has narrowed his scholarship list down to three and is ready to make a college decision in the coming weeks.

MADISON - The recruiting process has been a double-edge sword for Kelby Brown.

Grabbing offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Eastern Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Northwestern, Syracuse, UCLA and Wisconsin during his lengthy recruiting process, Brown has enjoyed the attention and seeing new opportunities, but, like so many other top prospects, has been worn out by the visits and being away from the field.

"I am thankful for my position that I have been so highly recruited," Brown told Badger Nation Thursday. "It's been an incredible experience, but I am ready to get it over with and move on. It's taken a lot out of me – traveling everywhere and thinking about it all the time."

Fortunately, the light can be seen at the end of the tunnel for Brown. Having only camped at North Carolina State, Brown completed his final visits this week, as the 6-foot-2, 182- pound outside linebacker from Charlotte (N.C.) Christian visited Indiana on the 23rd, Northwestern on the 24th and Wisconsin on the 25th.

"It was a long journey, but it was a lot of fun," Brown said. "Indiana has a newer facility with a massive weight room, Northwestern has a great staff and a great campus and Wisconsin has an amazing stadium. The campus is much bigger than anything I had expected."

On his way back to Charlotte, Brown narrowed down his list of 10 schools to his top three, which are, in no particular order, Duke, Northwestern and Wisconsin.

On Duke: "They have the academics that I like and they get better every year, which is a huge part of it for me. Everyone I talk to makes light about it and I have talked to Coach Cutcliffe a few times and I really like what he's doing with the program. I think Duke is going big places and it's a real excited thing to watch."

On Northwestern: "I have a good relationship with Coach Fitzgerald and the staff. We talked about a lot of things. I really like Northwestern a lot and my parents went there, as well."

On Wisconsin: "I went there today (yesterday) and am still collecting my thoughts. I thought it was really cool. They really treated me right, showed that they wanted me and that I have potential to play."

With all his visits and camps in his review mirror, don't expect to wait long to hear Brown's decision.

"I think that I am going to sit down and make my choice in the next two weeks, maybe shorter than that," he said. "Like I said, it's been a long process that I am looking forward to finishing."
