Ontko, from Walsh Jesuit HS, who at the start of the day had four offers (Georgia Tech, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Eastern Michigan), was among the hundreds of athletes hoping to fulfill a dream of garnering an offer from Ohio State.
"Well, what we did was we ran two 40s," Ontko explained. "They took our times. My 40 time was a 4.4. After I ran my first 40, Coach Tressel actually came over to watch my second. After that we went back inside to the indoor fields and we did position groups. We did a bunch of drills. Actual conditioning drills like the 60-yard shuttle, star drill and just a bunch of drills to work on things you do on the field.
"At first I was working with the linebackers," Ontko continued. "Then when I was working with the linebackers, Coach Johnson, the defensive backs coach came over, and said ‘Cameron, where have you been? We thought you were working with the secondary today.' I was like, alright, yeah I will do that for sure. A couple minutes later, Coach Bollman came up to me and said as well that they wanted me to work on some safety.
"So then they pulled me off from safety and the DBs and put me in a special group, with about 10 of the best DBs and I was doing a bunch of drills with them for a while. Then we got lunch and went back to the field and did the same thing and then some more one-on-ones."
Ontko may have started the day with four offers, but he received another before he returned home Friday night. "After that I actually got an offer from Bowling Green after the camp," Ontko said.
While on his way home, Ontko discussed a potential Ohio State offer. "I've got to call Coach Bollman. I am checking in with him to see where I stand, because, you know, I wasn't very impressed with where the coaches were the whole time," Ontko explained. "They didn't do a great job of watching everybody. I know they had a lot of people there, and they didn't really talk to anyone after the camp."
Ontko expressed understanding of a crowded camp, but must now await word from the Ohio State coaching staff about a potential scholarship offer in the next few days. He said that he still plans to make a final decision before his senior season or possibly sooner.
