Coming off a very productive season where he finished perfect with extra points going 25 for 25 and averaged 60 yards total on kick offs and 36.9 yards on punts. French has only two offers on the table but he expects more to come in before he has to make a decision.
"Right now I have offers from Wisconsin and Wyoming," French told Badger Nation. "I do have my eyes on other schools such as Vanderbilt, Northern Illinois, Purdue Georgia Tech. A lot of schools have been calling and checking on me."
According to French, there are two ways he can use the scholarship should he except. Option one is French could gray shirt, meaning he could go to a junior college for one semester, go to Madison following that semester, redshirt his first season and then start as a freshman for four years, as current UW kicker Philip Welch would have exhausted his eligibility.
The other option would be that French would redshirt right away and complete with Welch, who would be a senior, for the starting kicking job in 2011.
"Wisconsin would be a dream school for me," French said. "My mom went there and my brother is a junior there. I grew up watching them."
French has told Wyoming and Wisconsin that he would come for an official visit and that he will see where he gets other offers from and go from there.
French recently attended Chris Sailer's kicking camp and was happy with the response and results he received. Sailor, who is a well-known national kicking coach, was impressed with French's field goal capabilities. French is personally surprised with the ranking he has received on several national lists.
"I'm ranked 6th on Chris Sailer's list and ranked 11th on Jamie Kohl's list who is a well known kicking coach," French said. "I'm also ranked 11th on Scout.com, which is a huge honor."
When talking about the type of person he is and how that could impact a team like Wisconsin, French was straight to the point.
"On the field I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing," French said. "I don't consider myself the lonely kicker. Off the field I'm going to conduct myself and do what's best for the school and the community and not just the team."
French's immediate plans are to focus on his team's upcoming season and also work with the coaching staff at various schools to schedule visits. French wants to have a wait and see type of approach when it comes to other scholarship offers. Overall, French will make his decision when he feels it's the right time and he's comfortable.
