Badger Nation has confirmed that Ron Lee, the Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach from San Jose State, is the new DB coach at Wisconsin.
Here is what the official San Jose State football website has under Lee's biographical information:
Ronnie Lee played against San José State, coached against the Spartans as the defensive backs coach at Colorado State, and now is the team's new defensive coordinator.
Lee was on the short end as a hard-hitting defensive back in San José State's 1986 win at Washington State. Since 1996, he was on the winning side in two Colorado State wins over the Spartans.
Winning is commonplace in his coaching career. As a graduate assistant at the University of Miami, the Hurricanes won the 1989 national championship. Seven times in the last 10 years, he was an assistant coach on conference championship teams.
"When you work with good people and you enjoy going to work, it spreads to the players and helps produce winners," says Lee. "I believe in the theory, ‘Keep it simple.'
"Our philosophy will be to stop the run, swarm the ball and have all 11 guys around the football. We want to eliminate any big plays and create turnovers. That's our progression every day."
Lee, a native of Tulare, Calif., just two hours
from San Jose, saw the San José State coaching
job as an opportunity to be back in California and take on a defensive coordinator's role.
"I've had off and on contact with Fitz since 1991. We stayed in touch while he was working on his doctorate. When he was on the Utah State staff, I was offered the defensive backs job there," Lee recalls.
As a player, he led the Pac-10 Conference in fumbles caused in 1986. Perhaps, his biggest playing thrill was when Washington State upset then-number-one-ranked UCLA in 1988.
