Badger Sports Properties Hires New GM

Badger Sports Properties has hired a new General Manager, Lacrosse-native Tom Wistrcill.

Tom Wistrcill (WIS-ter-sill), a former commissioner in two Division II conferences and most recently the General Manager of a professional volleyball team, has been hired as the General Manager of Badger Sports Properties.

The native of La Crosse, Wis., takes over the lead position for the Wisconsin Athletic Department's multi-media media rights partner. He replaces Eric Barnhart, who has assumed a similar position for the Oklahoma University Athletic Department.

"This opportunity with Badger Sports Properties is a great marriage for me both personally and professionally," said Wistrcill. "It's great to be closer to family and friends and I'm especially excited to be a part of the Badger family."

Wistrcill was G.M. of the St. Louis Quest, a member of the Professional Women's Volleyball League, since the fall of 2001. He was responsible for the overall management of the franchise including game day operations, overall financial responsibility, creation of sales and marketing plans and staff development.

He worked as a marketing and sales consultant and as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for VarsityOnline.com in 2000-01 before joining the volleyball club.

Wistrcill's athletic administrative career included a four-year stint as Commissioner of the 14-school Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (1997-2000) and a four-year stint in the same role with the seven-school Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

His Big Ten experience came as an assistant in the Athletic Compliance Department at Minnesota (1993-94).

Wistrcill has served as a member of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball and Deregulation Committees and was CBS television coordinator for the Division I Men's Basketball Committee and ESPN's coordinator for the 2001 College Basketball Awards show.

The four-year starter on the St. Mary's (Winona, Minn.) men's basketball team has a B.A. in media communications from that institution. He also earned an M.A. in athletic administration from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul, Minn.).

Wistrcill and his wife, Kelly, have a son (Jonathan). His father is a football coach at Winona State University and his mother coaches cross country and track in Maplewood, Minn.

Wistrcill begins his duties immediately.
