The Next Man In?

With the Badgers losing four defensive tackles off their 2009 line, Wisconsin is hoping to add one more lineman to the 2010 recruiting class in order to get some more depth. Is Willow Run's Garret Davis that guy?

MADISON - With Signing Day just under a month away, there will be commitments and de-commitments, causing offers to be available and taken away at different schools. In turn, offers are sent out to another batch of players who will have to find the right fit in just under a month.

Garret Davis of Willow Run High School (Ypsilanti, MI), could be in this situation in the next month.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive lineman hasn't received a lot of interest from FBS teams during his recruitment. However, there have been a few schools that have kept tabs on him throughout the year, and his patience could pay off in the coming weeks.

Davis has mostly received interest from a number of Division 2 and FCS teams such as Wayne State and Grand Valley State. However, Iowa and Wisconsin have remained in the fray and stayed in contact.

While Davis has been listed mostly as an offensive lineman, Coach Alexander and the Badgers have been recruiting him as a defensive tackle exclusively.

One of the reasons teams are still interested are the impressive stats Davis has accumulated on the defensive side of the ball during his senior season at Willow Run.

"I'm a blue collar type player," Davis told Badger Nation. "I just get at it. I like to hit people in the mouth. When that helmet goes on and I get down on the line, I just take over."

Davis recorded 116 tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and scored on two of those fumble recoveries.

With his senior year winding down, Davis has narrowed his list to just a few schools. In fact, Davis has his destination if Wisconsin or another FBS school doesn't offer.

"I'm about to go to Wayne State on Friday (1/8) to talk to them, because if I don't get any D1 offers I am going to go to Wayne State," Davis said. "I already told them that I would sign with them on signing day if I don't get any D1 offers."

However, if the Badgers were to offer, he wouldn't have to think twice.

"I would probably commit right away," Davis said. "If Wisconsin offers then it would take, I don't know, just a couple days, then I would sign with them."

One of the things that made Wisconsin hesitate was his ACT score. Davis recently took the ACT again.

"I got it already back," Davis said. "They wanted an 18 and I got it back the day after Christmas, and I got an 18. They told me to email them and let them know when I got my ACT score and I already did that. That was the only thing holding me back, was the 18, because I was qualified, but they have higher standards."

Davis continues to wait for that offer, which could be due to the fact that Wisconsin recently received a commitment from Minnetonka's Beau Allen. They also have an offer out to Bruce Gaston (Ill.), which could be Davis' offer if Gaston were to commit elsewhere.

The Badgers have two potential defensive tackle commitments from Allen and Brookfield Central's Bryce Gilbert, along with Muskego's Kyle Costigan accepting a gray shirt offer.
