Although Wisconsin seemed to be his final destination, Rowlett linebacker Austin Kirpes was the victim of other prospects making their decisions quicker than he was ready to do. On Sunday night, Kirpes broke the news to Badger Nation that he accepted an offer from Texas State.
MADISON - Austin Kirpes
has decided that he has found the university that he will attend. The talented linebacker prospect from Rowlett High School (Rowlett, TX) has committed to Texas State.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker chose Texas State, but also had picked up offers from Sam Houston State, Portland State and Wisconsin.
Kirpes had favored Wisconsin after the Badgers had offered. He decided to wait and evaluate his options, but his scholarship may have been taken by one of the three linebackers to commit to the Badgers.
The Badgers have commitments from Cameron Ontko, Josh Harrison and Cody Byers. All three linebackers are from the state of Ohio.
With no spots open at Wisconsin, Kirpes received his offer from Texas State on the January 22, and pulled the trigger early Sunday.
"Overall they were the perfect fit for me," Kirpes told Badger Nation. "I'm looking forward to being part of the team."
