Badgers Writing D-Back

This fine defensive back has been contacted by Wisconsin. Did the Badgers make his early list of favorites?

Oak Creek (Wis.) High School has perhaps the best prospect in the Midwest in 6-foot-6, 265-pound Rhyan Anderson but another prospect that will gain a ton of looks on that squad is defensive back John West.

West is a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder, that also is a standout wide receiver for Oak Creek as well. Head coach Joe Koch feels West could be one of Wisconsin's biggest sleepers.

"John is a very physical player that's been getting a lot of attention," Koch said. "He's a bit of a hoop dreamer but football is his calling. John has broad shoulders, he's cut and he is a super athlete."

West says he's hearing from a lot of schools right now.

"I don't have any scholarship offers yet," said West. "Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Colorado and Duke are the schools that have been writing the most.

"My favorites are Nebraska, Colorado, Ohio State, Michigan and Iowa. I really don't have a leader. I'm going to keep working hard and we'll see what happens.

"I'm going to the (Michigan) Nike Camp this spring and I'm going to the University of Michigan summer camp."

John West will be a two-year varsity starter in 2003. He led his team in interceptions as a junior and was second in tackles.
