Walter Mendenhall, a 6-foot, 190-pound, running back from Skokie (Ill.) Niles West will be a player to watch in 2003.
Mendenhall rushed for 1,177 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. Plays quarterback and defensive back in high school but projects as a running back or cornerback at the next level.
"Illinois and Northwestern have already offered a scholarship," said Niles West head coach Mark Egofske.
"I know Wisconsin just got a verbal from Jamil Walker but they are still very high on Walter.
"Walter is as good as any running back in the state. He runs hard and he has good vision. I've seen reports that says he runs a 4.4 (40-yard dash) but he's more like a 4.6 kid."
Walter Mendenhall will be a three-year starter in 2003. He was named co-offensive player of the year as a junior.
