Laramie, Wyo. -- University of Wyoming head basketball coach Heath Schroyer announced on Wednesday that freshman point guard Marios Matalon is leaving the University of Wyoming basketball program to return to Greece.
"We are sorry to see Marios make this decision," said Schroyer. "We were looking forward to him growing as a player in our program. Marios is a great young man, great player and teammate. We wish him and his family nothing but the best. I know he will be successful at whatever he chooses to do in life.
"Our focus now, as a coaching staff, is to concentrate on the young men in our program. We look forward to building on our most recent win over Colorado."
A true freshman from Thessaloniki, Greece, Matalon had played in three of Wyoming's first seven games of the 2007-08 season. He was averaging 1.7 assists and 11.7 minutes per game.
