Facilities, Academics Impress James

Wyoming got a little help from both its indoor practice field and its pharmacy school in David James' recruiting…

With the recruiting season close to wrapping up, the Wyoming coaching staff was able to get a verbal commitment from one of Oklahoma's outstanding athletes in David James.

In high school, James was a versatile athlete playing wide receiver, safety, and cornerback, where he is expected to play at the college level.

The Cowboys contacted James before the season, during two-a-days, and then suddenly he quit hearing from them. The two parties eventually began talking again once Wyoming received film on James, and the Cowboys offered him a scholarship in early December.

James privately committed to running backs coach Bryan Applewhite and defensive coordinator Mike Breske shortly after, but the coaches wanted to keep it quiet until they were able to arrange an official visit from James. On his official visit this past weekend head coach Joe Glenn reaffirmed the offer and asked James if he truly wanted to be a Poke.

James replied, "Of course!"

Nothing was official until James talked it over with his parents.

"My parents are academics first, and they went along with it because Wyoming had the pharmacy school I wanted to get into," he said. "It worked out beautifully."

Perhaps what truly sold James on playing football at Wyoming were the facilities.

"They took us to the weight room and I thought it was pretty nice," he said. "Then they showed us the indoor facility, and I was amazed.

"Coming from Oklahoma only OU has an indoor field, but the one at Wyoming is the best one I've ever seen."

James chose Wyoming over The Citadel and Iowa State.
