Who will be the starting quarterback at Wyoming this fall?
That is the question everyone is asking. Will it be senior Karsten Sween, who is having a good spring? Will it be Austyn-Carta Samuels a true freshman or will it be junior college transfer Robert Benjamin from Phoenix Community College.
CowboyBlitz.com caught up with Benjamin to get his feelings on the subject.
"I'm very excited and looking forward to arriving in Wyoming this summer," Benjamin said. "My classes are going really good right now; I'm working out everyday getting ready for the upcoming season."
Benjamin, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete who runs a 4.5 forty, threw for over 2,100 yards, rushed for 400 yards and scored 22 touchdowns at Phoenix CC last fall.
Why did Benjamin choose the Wyoming Cowboy football program?
"I really liked the different environment," Benjamin said. "It felt like home to me. I wanted to be one of the reasons, a factor in turning around the football program there."
Benjamin is looking forward to playing in the Cowboys new spread offense brought in by new head coach Dave Christensen.
"I have been running the spread for several seasons," Benjamin said. "I thrive in that type of offense."
Benjamin was also very impressed with the new coaching staff.
"They welcomed me to their campus and to their family," Benjamin said. "They really seem to know what they are talking about; I'm very excited about playing there for the next couple of years."
Benjamin keeps in touch with the new coaching staff; they continue to inspire their future quarterback.
"They keep telling me that they want me to do what they have seen me do on film," Benjamin explained. "They want me to come in and compete for the starting role."
Benjamin has one thought on who will start this upcoming fall.
"It's my goal to earn the starting role and the respect of my new teammates," Benjamin said. "I want to be the starter and I'm going to do everything I can possibly do. I'm a winner and I want to make Wyoming a winner. My plan is to show case my abilities and have fun in the process."
Benjamin plans on arriving in Wyoming in early June, to give him as much time as possible to get to know his new teammates.
"I can't wait to get there," Benjamin said. "I'm very excited about the opportunity that Wyoming is giving me, I plan on taking full advantage of it."
