8h agoBrown agreed to a contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Brown appeared in 60 career games as a special-teams ace during his first four seasons with the Giants, tallying 24 tackles over that span. The 26-year-old played exclusively on special teams in 16 games during the 2023 campaign, so he'll more than likely fulfill a similar role for Miami in 2024.

8h agoThe Browns placed Murray on the retired/reserve list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Murray played for the Raiders, Cardinals, Bills and Titans during his six-year NFL career, appearing in 41 games with 20 starts during his professional tenure. The soon-to-be 31-year-old joined Cleveland's practice squad last November and then signed a futures contract in January, but he never played in any games for the team.

J.K. Dobbins BAL RBChargers' J.K. Dobbins: Slated to join Chargers
9h agoDobbins (Achilles) is in line to sign a one-contract with the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
A second-round pick of the Ravens in 2020, Dobbins had two of his first four pro seasons cut short due to an ACL tear in 2021 and then a torn left Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 campaign. In his 24 career appearances, he's averaged a robust 5.8 yards on 234 carries, gathered in 27 of 35 targets for 177 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache penned a letter to NFL teams in late March that Dobbins had received medical clearance to participate in football activities, but his new contract will be contingent on a physical. Once the move west to L.A. becomes official, Dobbins will join forces with former teammate Gus Edwards at the top of the RB depth chart, giving him some sway in fantasy working alongside QB Justin Herbert.

13h agoSlayton (thumb) hasn't reported to the Giants' voluntary workouts while he seeks a contract extension, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Slayton, who led the team with 770 receiving yards in 17 games in 2023, has attended the Giants' voluntary offseason program in the past. The 27-year-old wideout is in line to earn $6.2 million in the final year of his contract in 2024, but Slayton is evidently looking to amend those terms. At this stage, Slayton -- who is recovering from an offseason procedure on his right thumb -- is poised to retain a key role in a Giants wideout corps that currently includes Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.

17h agoGeneral manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that the Dolphins will exericse the fifth-year option on Phillips' (Achilles) rookie contract before May's deadline, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
A torn right Achilles' tendon limited Phillips to just eight games last season, but he's reportedly on track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 campaign. He's been one of the Dolphins' more impactful pass rushers over the past three seasons, and the team will be more in need of him than ever with Christian Wilkins having moved on to Las Vegas.

De'Von Achane MIA RBDolphins' De'Von Achane: Bulks up during offseason
17h agoAchane appears to have added muscle to his frame through his workouts earlier this offseason, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
A photo of Achane showing up for OTAs went viral, with some saying he looks much larger than he did during his rookie campaign. It's his second offseason bulking up for football without also considering track and field, though at this point it's unclear how much muscle he's added relative to his weight from the 2023 NFL Combine, where he ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at 188 pounds. Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry and scored a touchdown per game last season, albeit with injuries (six missed games) and Raheem Mostert's presence (209 carries) limiting the rookie to 103 carries and 27 catches in his 11 appearances. The Dolphins still have Mostert under contract -- along with backups Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed (foot) and Chris Brooks -- but they'll presumably prepare Achane with more of the backfield work in his second NFL season.

3h agoJimenez went 0-for-5 with three walks and a run scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals.
Jimenez was in the lineup for the first time since being activated from the injured list, and he served as the designated hitter in both contests while batting cleanup. It's also possible that Jimenez will see time in the outfield, though the team may be cautious with his usage given his lengthy injury history.

3h agoSheets went 1-for-7 with a walk and a solo home run across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Royals.
Sheets had been serving as the White Sox's primary designated hitter in the absence of Eloy Jimenez, while also picking up some playing time at first base. With Jimenez back in the mix, Sheets started both of Wednesday's games in right field, forcing Andrew Benintendi to the bench in one contest and Gavin Sheets in the other. It will take some additional time to see how playing time sorts out in the team's outfield, particularly if Tommy Pham also reaches the big-league roster. For now, it appears that Dominic Fletcher may be the only full-time starter.

Joe got off to an excellent start to the season, which has helped him earn more playing time than expected while splitting time between right field and first base. He's been in the lineup for six of Pittsburgh's last seven games but has now gone just 4-for-22 in that span. Joe will likely need to turn things around quickly to maintain his playing time against righties, with Edward Olivares being his primary competition for plate appearances.

3h agoBednar allowed three earned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two across 0.2 innings Wednesday against the Mets.
Bednar hadn't pitched since Friday so the Pirates got him work, even with a five-run deficit. He allowed three of the first four batters he faced to reach base and allowed an earned run, but he did manage to end his appearance with a pair of punchouts. His poor line was made worse when Josh Fleming allowed a pair of inherited runners to score. Though it didn't come in a save situation, Bednar's appearance didn't help get his season on track, as he's allowed at least one earned run in four of his seven appearances and has an ERA of 13.50.

4h agoArozarena went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Wednesday against the Angels.
Arozarena hasn't had a good start at the plate, as he's hitting just .174 with two home runs across 75 plate appearances. When he has gotten on base, however, he's taken advantage as he's managed four stolen bases without being caught. Arozarena is also striking out at a fairly typical 25.3 percent clip, so there's not a significant reason to panic about his performance yet.

4h agoBradley (pectoral) threw around 50 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Bradley threw the session at the Rays' spring training facility, which marked a significant step in his return. He's nearing a rehab assignment, but the team has stated it wants to ensure he regains his stamina before pushing him too hard. A return in the first half of May remains realistic if Bradley doesn't suffer any setbacks.

5h agoCaruso generated six points (2-3 FG, 2-3 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and a steal during 17 minutes of Wednesday's 131-116 win over the Hawks. Caruso said post-game that he sprained his left ankle, Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com reports.
Caruso missed portions of the first half after a collision with Andre Drummond. While he managed to return to the game, he was subbed out with 9:43 to play in the third quarter and didn't check back in. Caruso's status is certainly up in the air for Friday's matchup with Miami and is worth monitoring ahead of the contest. If he ends up sitting, Javonte Green, Torrey Craig and Dalen Terry are candidates for more minutes.

6h agoButler is feared to have sustained an MCL injury in his right knee, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Butler finished out Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game against the 76ers despite sporting a limp in his right leg. While he was reported to be undergoing an MRI on Thursday, Butler's injury could be more serious than initially expected. If it ends up being an MCL injury, it's highly unlikely that Butler will be able to play in Friday's Play-In elimination game. In that scenario, Jaime Jaquez, Haywood Highsmith and Caleb Martin would likely see more minutes.

Caruso took a brief trip to the locker room late in the first quarter after colliding with Andre Drummond. However, he's checked back into the contest and should be good to go.

Heat's Jimmy Butler: Undergoing MRI on knee
6h agoButler will have an MRI on Thursday after sustaining a right knee injury during Wednesday's 105-104 Play-In Tournament loss to the 76ers, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports. He played 40 minutes and generated 19 points (5-18 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 7-8 FT), five assists, four rebounds and five steals.
Butler appeared to tweak his knee late in the first quarter after being fouled but remained in the game at less than 100 percent, sporting a noticeable limp at times. Butler was seen wearing a protective knee sleeve post-game and will have more testing done Thursday. The Heat will play in a win-or-go-home matchup Friday night, giving Butler very little time to heal. We should know more about the severity of the injury once the MRI results come back.

7h agoCaruso went back to the locker room during Wednesday's game against the Hawks with what appeared to be a right foot injury, Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com reports.
Andre Drummond stepped on Caruso's foot in transition and ran over Caruso at half-court. Caruso quickly removed himself from the game and limped back to the locker room. He should be considered questionable to return.

8h agoDrummond (ankle) is available for Wednesday's Play-In Tournament game versus the Hawks, Lauren L. Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Drummond has been upgraded from questionable to available Wednesday after missing Chicago's previous three contests with a left ankle sprain. Drummond is averaging 9.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 18.5 minutes across his previous 10 appearances.

Broberg was brought up from AHL Bakersfield on Tuesday to give the Oilers an option to rest defensemen. Cody Ceci and Darnell Nurse were rested Wednesday, and Broberg stepped into the lineup, setting up a Warren Foegele tally in the third period. This was Broberg's first point over 11 NHL appearances this season, and he's added five shots on net, nine blocked shots and a minus-3 rating. He could be in the lineup again Thursday versus the Avalanche if the Oilers opt to cycle other players out of the lineup.

Ekholm snapped a three-game dry spell by setting up a Sam Carrick tally in the first period. The 33-year-old Ekholm played in his 100th game as an Oiler on Wednesday -- he has 59 points and a plus-72 rating with the team. This season, he's at 45 points, 177 shots on net, 136 hits, 93 blocked shots and a plus-44 rating through 79 appearances. It is unclear if he'll play or receive rest Thursday versus the Avalanche.

Bouchard is up to two goals and four assists through nine outings in April. The 24-year-old defenseman has actually slowed down a bit compared to his season pace, which has seen him rack up 82 points (35 on the power play) with 220 shots on net, 105 blocked shots, 71 hits and a plus-34 rating through 81 appearances.

He's produced 16 points, 91 shots on net, 166 hits, 102 PIM and a minus-11 rating through 76 outings overall, mainly in a fourth-line role.

If the Oilers opt to rest their star players Thursday versus the Avalanche, Foegele could be in line for a larger role, making him an attractive option for DFS formats.

3h agoPickard allowed four goals on 23 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Pickard has lost four of his last six outings, giving up 19 goals in that span. The 32-year-old dropped to 12-7-1 with a 2.48 GAA and a .908 save percentage through 22 appearances this season. The Oilers are locked in to the No. 2 spot in the Pacific Division, so they have no motivation to play starter Stuart Skinner versus the Avalanche on Thursday in the regular-season finale, but the team has not announced its goaltending plans yet.
