Cody Davis: Hangs up cleats
2h agoDavis announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, Chris Mason of Masslive.com reports.
Davis played 11 NFL seasons, spending five years with the Rams, two with the Jaguars and the final four of his career with the Patriots. The 34-year-old primarily played on special teams and hadn't played a defensive snap since 2020. He'll finish his career with 118 combined tackles, two interceptions and three fumbles recovered.

Olamide Zaccheaus PHI WR
Commanders' Olamide Zaccheaus: Moving on to Washington
2h agoZaccheaus has agreed to a deal with the Commanders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
In his only campaign with the Eagles, Zaccheaus (who caught 40 passes with the Falcons in 2022) finished the 2023 regular season with 10 catches for 164 yards and two TDs in 17 games. With the Commanders, the 26-year-old will add depth to a wideout corps that is currently led by Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. In that context, Zaccheaus has some bounce-back potential if he can carve out steady snaps in 2024 behind the team's top duo.

DeShawn Williams BUF DE
Bills' DeShawn Williams: Lands in Buffalo
5h agoThe Bills signed Williams to a one-year contract Thursday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Williams suited up for 16 regular-season games with the Panthers last season, a span in which he racked up 33 tackles (13 solo) and one sack. He stands to bolster Buffalo's defensive line as a depth piece for the 2024 season.

Jayden Daniels 2005 QB
Jayden Daniels: Throws at LSU Pro Day
5h agoDaniels, who opted to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, did so at LSU's Pro Day on Wednesday, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Per the report, Daniels, who measured in at 6-foot-3⅝, 210 pounds, was slated to spend time afterward with the Patriots, Commanders, Giants, Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. As next month's draft approaches, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner is viewed as one of the top options at the QB position along with USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. While Williams is expected to be selected first overall, where Daniels lands remains to be seen, though what is clear is that the top four signal-callers figure to come off the board quickly, in any case.

Josiah Deguara JAC TE
Jaguars' Josiah Deguara: Inking with Jacksonville
8h agoThe Jaguars are slated to sign Deguara to a one-year contract, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
Deguara spent the last four seasons handling a depth role in Green Bay, where he was drafted in the third round back in 2020. His versatility both as a blocker and on special teams will boost his chances of earning playing time behind Evan Engram, but Deguara peaked with a 25-245-2 receiving line in 2021 and doesn't appear to have much fantasy potential.

J.K. Dobbins BAL RB
J.K. Dobbins: Lines up AFC West visit
9h agoDobbins (Achilles) is visiting the Chargers on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dobbins, who was recently medically cleared for football activities, is coming off a left Achilles tear after previously missing all of 2021 and about half of the 2022 season due to a torn ACL and proceeding issues. That medical history undercuts otherwise impressive career numbers for Dobbins, who has averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns since entering the NFL in 2020 as a second-round pick by the Ravens, but only suited up for 24 games in that span. Reuniting with offensive coordinator Greg Roman could make the most sense as a landing spot for Dobbins, but it's possible he doesn't garner more interest than a potential prove-it deal. The Chargers signed Gus Edwards,a former Baltimore backfield mate of Dobbins, early in free agency.

Max Kepler MIN RF
Twins' Max Kepler: Exits with possible injury
10m agoKepler was removed from Thursday's game against the Royals after fouling a ball off his right leg, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Kepler initially remained in the game to finish his at-bat after getting checked out by trainers, but he was replaced once the Twins took the field in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Twins will take a look at the 31-year-old outfielder and should have more information in the near future.
-
Nick Senzel WAS 3B
Nationals' Nick Senzel: Has broken thumb
1h agoSenzel broke his thumb while fielding a groundball before Thursday's game against the Reds, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
The Nationals should offer more details following Thursday's game, but it sounds like Senzel may be facing an extended absence to begin the season. Ildemaro Vargas entered the lineup as Senzel's replacement and figures to see regular reps at third base while he's out.
-
Enmanuel Valdez BOS 2B
Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Playing 2B in opener
1h agoValdez is starting at second base and batting eighth for Thursday's opener against the Mariners, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
With Vaughn Grissom (groin) on the 10-day IL, Valdez will get first crack at second base Thursday ahead of Pablo Reyes. In spring training, Valdez slashed .204/.264/.531 with four home runs and seven RBI over 49 at-bats.

Will Brennan CLE RF
Guardians' Will Brennan: Not starting versus lefty
1h agoBrennan isn't in the Guardians' lineup for Thursday's game against Oakland.
With left-hander Alex Wood starting on the hill for the A's, the lefty-hitting Brennan will retreat to the dugout Thursday. Ramon Laureano will start in right field as a result, allowing David Fry to serve as Cleveland's DH and bat fifth.
-
Estevan Florial CLE CF
Guardians' Estevan Florial: Sitting versus southpaw
1h agoFlorial isn't in the Guaridans' lineup Thursday against the Athletics.
Florial is likely to start in center field most days as a strong-side platoon option, but he will take a seat Thursday with left-hander Alex Wood on the bump. Tyler Freeman will get the nod in center field instead and bat sixth.
-
Sean Hjelle SF RP
Giants' Sean Hjelle: Shelved with elbow strain
1h agoThe Giants placed Hjelle (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Hjelle has resumed throwing off the mound since being shut down earlier this month with a mild right elbow sprain, but he's still likely to face an uphill battle to make it back from the 15-day injured list April 9 when first eligible. At this stage, Alex Cobb (hip) seems to be ahead of Hjelle in his throwing progression, as Cobb threw 40 pitches in a minor-league spring training game last weekend. If Cobb beats Hjelle back from the IL, the latter would likely have to settle for a long-relief role or a rotation spot at Triple-A Sacramento upon being activated.

Damion Lee PHO SG
Suns' Damion Lee: Remains out against OKC
13m agoLee (knee) is out for Friday's game against the Thunder, Gerald Bourguet of GoPHNX.com reports.
Lee has yet to resume on-court activities and has no clear timetable for his return, so he might miss the rest of the regular season and possibly the playoffs. The veteran guard has yet to play in 2023-24.
-
Jusuf Nurkic PHO C
Suns' Jusuf Nurkic: Questionable for Friday
15m agoNurkic (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game in Oklahoma City, Gerald Bourguet of GoPHNX.com reports.
Nurkic missed Wednesday's game due to a sprained ankle, which resulted in Drew Eubanks drawing a spot start, and the latter finished with five points, four rebounds and an assist over 27 minutes. If Nurkic needs to miss another game, Eubanks would likely get another start, but he's not the most attractive target in fantasy hoops.
-
Jrue Holiday BOS PG
Celtics' Jrue Holiday: Gets green light
30m agoHoliday (shoulder) is available for Thursday's game against the Hawks, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
Holiday will return Thursday following a five-game absence due to a right shoulder sprain. The Celtics' regular rotation, save for Al Horford (toe/rest), is healthy for the first time in a couple of weeks as Boston looks to avenge an ugly loss to Atlanta on Monday. Holiday will start and won't have any restrictions.
-
Taj Gibson DET C
Pistons' Taj Gibson: Still sidelined
1h agoGibson (hamstring) is out for Friday's game versus the Wizards.
Gibson's absence streak will extend to six games Friday due to a right hamstring strain. There is no timetable for the veteran big man's return.
-
Quentin Grimes DET SG
Pistons' Quentin Grimes: Will remain out Friday
1h agoGrimes (knee) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Wizards.
Grimes hasn't suited up since March 13 and has made just six appearances since Jan. 30. His next chance to play will come Monday versus Memphis, but he doesn't have an official return timetable.
-
Cade Cunningham DET SG
Pistons' Cade Cunningham: Iffy against Washington
1h agoCunningham (knee) is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Wizards.
Cunningham continues to pop up on Detroit's injury report due to left knee injury management. Jaden Ivey (knee) is also questionable, so if both of Detroit's usual starting guards are unavailable, Marcus Sasser could be in store for a leading role.
-
Noah Cates PHI LW
Flyers' Noah Cates: Unvailable Thursday
5m agoCates (personal) won't play Thursday versus the Canadiens.
Cates has been in a bottom-six role recently and hasn't recorded a point in his last nine games, so his absence won't make waves in fantasy. Cam Atkinson will draw into the lineup Thursday with Cates out. The Flyers return home to face the Blackhawks on Saturday.
-
Frederik Andersen CAR G
Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Slated to face Red Wings
1h agoAndersen is set to play at home against Detroit on Thursday, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.
Andersen is on a six-game winning streak in which he's allowed just eight goals on 163 shots (.951 save percentage). He's 10-1-0 with a 2.05 GAA and a .925 save percentage in 12 outings overall. Detroit has won only three of its last 13 contests, so this is a favorable matchup for Andersen.
-
Jesper Fast CAR RW
Hurricanes' Jesper Fast: Remains out Thursday
1h agoFast (upper body) won't return for Thursday's game against Detroit, per Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal.
Fast will miss his fifth consecutive contest. He has six goals and 18 points in 66 outings in 2023-24. When healthy, Fast typically serves in a bottom-six capacity.
-
Vince Dunn SEA D
Kraken's Vince Dunn: Unavailable Thursday
2h agoDunn (upper body) wore a non-contact jersey during Thursday's practice and is consequently expected to miss the evening's game against Anaheim, per Mike Benton of the Kraken Audio Network.
Dunn, who was last in the lineup March 4, has 11 goals and 45 points in 57 outings in 2023-24. The 27-year-old defenseman should resume his role as a top-four defenseman once he recovers.
-
Jacob Trouba NYR D
Rangers' Jacob Trouba: Unlikely to return Thursday
2h agoTrouba (lower body) isn't likely to play against Colorado on Thursday, according to Jim Cerny of Forever Blueshirts.
Trouba hasn't been in the lineup since March 4. He has three goals, 22 points, 52 PIM, 164 hits and 170 blocks in 60 outings in 2023-24. Trouba is expected to serve in a top-four capacity once he recovers, but the 30-year-old will likely have a minimal role on the power play.
-
Erik Gustafsson NYR D
Rangers' Erik Gustafsson: Remains out Thursday
2h agoGustafsson (upper body) won't be available Thursday versus Colorado, per Jim Cerny of Forever Blueshirts.
Gustafsson is set to miss his second consecutive contest. He has six goals and 30 points in 70 appearances this season. When Gustafsson is ready to return, he might serve in a bottom-four capacity.
