Dolphins' Cam Brown: Inks deal in Miami
    12h ago

Brown agreed to a contract with the Dolphins on Wednesday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Brown appeared in 60 career games as a special-teams ace during his first four seasons with the Giants, tallying 24 tackles over that span. The 26-year-old played exclusively on special teams in 16 games during the 2023 campaign, so he'll more than likely fulfill a similar role for Miami in 2024.

    Justin Murray: Hangs it up
    13h ago

The Browns placed Murray on the retired/reserve list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Murray played for the Raiders, Cardinals, Bills and Titans during his six-year NFL career, appearing in 41 games with 20 starts during his professional tenure. The soon-to-be 31-year-old joined Cleveland's practice squad last November and then signed a futures contract in January, but he never played in any games for the team.

Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Slated to join Chargers
    14h ago

Dobbins (Achilles) is in line to sign a one-contract with the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

A second-round pick of the Ravens in 2020, Dobbins had two of his first four pro seasons cut short due to an ACL tear in 2021 and then a torn left Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 campaign. In his 24 career appearances, he's averaged a robust 5.8 yards on 234 carries, gathered in 27 of 35 targets for 177 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache penned a letter to NFL teams in late March that Dobbins had received medical clearance to participate in football activities, but his new contract will be contingent on a physical. Once the move west to L.A. becomes official, Dobbins will join forces with former teammate Gus Edwards at the top of the RB depth chart, giving him some sway in fantasy working alongside QB Justin Herbert.

Giants' Darius Slayton: Seeking new deal
    17h ago

Slayton (thumb) hasn't reported to the Giants' voluntary workouts while he seeks a contract extension, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Slayton, who led the team with 770 receiving yards in 17 games in 2023, has attended the Giants' voluntary offseason program in the past. The 27-year-old wideout is in line to earn $6.2 million in the final year of his contract in 2024, but Slayton is evidently looking to amend those terms. At this stage, Slayton -- who is recovering from an offseason procedure on his right thumb -- is poised to retain a key role in a Giants wideout corps that currently includes Wan'Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt.

Dolphins' Jaelan Phillips: Getting fifth-year option picked up
    22h ago

General manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that the Dolphins will exericse the fifth-year option on Phillips' (Achilles) rookie contract before May's deadline, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.

A torn right Achilles' tendon limited Phillips to just eight games last season, but he's reportedly on track to be ready for Week 1 of the 2024 campaign. He's been one of the Dolphins' more impactful pass rushers over the past three seasons, and the team will be more in need of him than ever with Christian Wilkins having moved on to Las Vegas.

Dolphins' De'Von Achane: Bulks up during offseason
    22h ago

Achane appears to have added muscle to his frame through his workouts earlier this offseason, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.

A photo of Achane showing up for OTAs went viral, with some saying he looks much larger than he did during his rookie campaign. It's his second offseason bulking up for football without also considering track and field, though at this point it's unclear how much muscle he's added relative to his weight from the 2023 NFL Combine, where he ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at 188 pounds. Achane averaged 7.8 yards per carry and scored a touchdown per game last season, albeit with injuries (six missed games) and Raheem Mostert's presence (209 carries) limiting the rookie to 103 carries and 27 catches in his 11 appearances. The Dolphins still have Mostert under contract -- along with backups Jeff Wilson, Salvon Ahmed (foot) and Chris Brooks -- but they'll presumably prepare Achane with more of the backfield work in his second NFL season.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Swipes second bag
    1m ago

Altuve went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

The veteran second baseman racked up his fifth multi-hit performance over the last seven games, a stretch in which Altuve is batting a blistering .467 (14-for-30). He was hardly cold before that though, and he's failed to collect a hit in only only of his first 20 games. On the season, Altuve is slashing .388/.462/.675 with five homers, two steals, seven RBI and 15 runs scored.

Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Sitting in second straight
    1m ago

Yoshida is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Guardians, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

The lefty-hitting Yoshida now finds himself out of the lineup for the second day in a row, with both absences coming against right-handed pitchers. While the Red Sox haven't suggested that Yoshida is dealing with an injury, the consecutive absences as Boston has played shorthanded in Cleveland with both Tyler O'Neill (forehead) and Rafael Devers (knee) missing time with injuries suggests the 30-year-old might be banged up to some degree. Even if the Red Sox don't provide an update on Yoshida following Thursday's game, fantasy managers will still want to keep tabs on his status heading into this weekend's series in Pittsburgh.

Rodgers (illness) appeared as a pinch runner Wednesday against the Phillies.

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Pops first homer of year
    4m ago

Dubon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

Getting the start in center field and batting seventh, Dubon took Jesse Chavez deep in the sixth inning to give the Astros a 4-2 lead that the bullpen couldn't protect. The 29-year-old utility player has hit safely in four straight games and six of the last seven as he pushes Jake Meyers for playing time in center, and on the season Dubon is batting .279 (12-for-43) with one homer, one steal, four runs and 10 RBI.

Red Sox's Tyler O'Neill: Out again Thursday

O'Neill (forehead) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Guardians.

O'Neill is still on the mend after needing stitches for a forehead laceration that he suffered during a collision with teammate Rafael Devers on Monday. The good news is he has cleared concussion protocol and he could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday. Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu are in the corner outfield spots for the Red Sox on Thursday.

  • Andrew Abbott CIN SP
Reds' Andrew Abbott: Strikes out six in loss
    6m ago

Abbott (1-2) took the loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, surrendering two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings.

Abbott was efficient for most of the afternoon, with the exception of the hanging four-seamers he left out over the plate for Cal Raleigh in the second inning, and Mitch Garver in the sixth, both of which would end up in the outfield stands. The young lefty hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his first four starts to open the season and actually fanned a season-high six batters Wednesday, though the two home runs he allowed also marked a season high. Furthermore, Abbott has now gone at least six innings in each of his last two starts and still carries a clean 2.70 ERA following the loss.

Hawks' Bogdan Bogdanovic: Posts 21 points in final game
    3h ago

Bogdanovic ended with 21 points (8-18 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game loss to the Bulls.

Bogdanovic jumped in and out of the starting lineup this season but still managed an average of 30.4 minutes per game, a career-best for the veteran. The sharpshooter saw a modest decline in his three-point percentage this season, averaging only 37.4 percent beyond the arc. He ended the season ranked fifth in the league with 651 three-pointers. Bogdanovic is in the midst of a four-year deal with the Hawks and he's expected to remain with the team.

Hawks' Dejounte Murray: Ends season with 30-point effort
    3h ago

Murray closed Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game loss to Chicago with 30 points (11-21 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-6 FT), seven rebounds, six assists and two steals across 46 minutes.

Despite dealing with an extended absence from Trae Young, Murray kept the team afloat and squeaked into the Play-In Bracket. Despite the disappointing end, Murray put together the best campaign of his seven-year career, averaging 22.5 points, 6.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals during his second year with the Hawks. While Young will almost certainly be headed elsewhere, Murray is locked into a contract with the Hawks and should continue to be a focal point of the offense next season.

Hawks' Trae Young: Finishes season with 22 points
    3h ago

Young finished Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game loss to Chicago with 22 points (4-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 11-13 FT), two rebounds and 10 assists over 43 minutes.

Young may have played his last game in an Atlanta uniform Wednesday night. Young will definitely test the market after a disappointing end to the 2023-24 season, and it seems to be foregone conclusion that he'll be headed elsewhere. The Hawks went 12-11 during Young's most recent absence, proving that the current roster can play break-even ball without him. Young's departure will free up considerable cap space, and with Dejounte Murray locked into a deal, the Hawks may look for a capable off-the-ball guard to complement him.

  • DeMar DeRozan CHI SF
Bulls' DeMar DeRozan: Flirts with double-double in win
    3h ago

DeRozan ended with 22 points (10-19 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds, nine assists, one block and one steal over 44 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game victory over the Hawks.

DeRozan put together another successful season during his third season with the Bulls. Perhaps the biggest feather in DeRozan's cap is his attendance record, as he's played at least 74 games per season over three years in Chicago. The veteran will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, and the Bulls will probably make a competitive offer unless another team presents an irresistible package. For the time being, DeRozan's focus will be on advancing with a win against Miami.

Bulls' Nikola Vucevic: Records double-double in win
    3h ago

Vucevic notched 24 points (11-21 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game victory over the Hawks.

Although Coby White's heroics headlined the game, the most interesting positional battle occurred inside, where Vucevic and Clint Capela went toe-to-toe. Although Capela out-rebounded Vucevic, the Chicago big man displayed his ability to stretch the floor, forcing Capela to play further out. The result was a vulnerable interior defense for the Hawks, and the rest of the team took advantage with productive slashes to the basket. Things won't get any easier for Vucevic in the next game, as he'll face Bam Adebayo in a battle for the eighth seed.

Bulls' Coby White: Scores career-high 42 points
    3h ago

White amassed 42 points (15-21 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 9-10 FT), nine rebounds, six assists and two steals in 43 minutes during Wednesday's 131-116 Play-In Game victory over Atlanta.

White enjoyed a career night during the elimination game and led the Bulls in scoring by a wide margin. The fight for the eighth seed seems like a lost cause with the Boson Celtics looming as the eventual opponent, but few teams could have beaten the Bulls Wednesday night, galvanized by White's stellar evening. His stat line is a reminder that White should be considered as a favorite to win Most Improved Player honors.
