Theo Johnson NYG TE
Giants' Theo Johnson: Aiming to stay healthy in 2025
2d agoJohnson said he wants to play in all 17 of the Giants' regular-season games during the upcoming season, Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports. "I've been taking my recovery and my health, what I'm putting in my body and everything, more serious than I ever have. I think that's the biggest goal for me is prioritizing my health and wellness and making sure that I'm available and consistent throughout 17 games," the tight end stated.
Johnson missed New York's final five contests last year due to a foot injury, but he is back to full health and has participated in the team's OTAs this offseason. Though he got off to somewhat of a rocky start as a rookie, Johnson had been coming on strong prior to getting hurt, averaging 3.6 catches for 43.2 yards over his final five contests. He'll look to build upon that production as the Giants' top tight end in 2025, and there is potential for more opportunities now that Johnson is working with a revamped QB room that features Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and promising rookie Jaxson Dart.

Calvin Austin III PIT WR
Steelers' Calvin Austin: Leading candidate for WR2 spot
4d agoSteelers receivers coach Zach Azzani recently said "that [WR2] spot is all [Austin's] right now," Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
The Steelers reworked their wideout room over the offseason, jettisoning George Pickens in a trade while also letting Van Jefferson walk in free agency. DK Metcalf was acquired from Seattle, and Pittsburgh also signed 33-year-old Robert Woods. However, it sounds like Austin has a significant lead on Woods and second-year WR Roman Wilson for the starting gig opposite Metcalf. Austin had a breakout 2024 campaign, posting a 36-548-4 receiving line on 58 targets while playing in all 17 regular-season games, averaging a robust 15.2 yards per catch. Following the Steelers' acquisition of Jonnu Smith, this looks like an offense that is going to feature two tight ends in Smith and Pat Freiermuth, as opposed to three wide receivers, so the winner of the WR2 job stands to see far more playing time than the Steelers' third and fourth receivers.

Devontez Walker BAL WR
Ravens' Devontez Walker: Leading candidate for WR4 job
4d agoWalker was Baltimore's most consistent wide receiver during spring practices and appears to be the frontrunner for the WR4 job, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Walker was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 Draft and saw just three targets across nine regular-season appearances as a rookie, catching one pass for a 21-yard touchdown. Walker played just 57 offensive snaps across those nine contests and was sixth amongst Baltimore's wideouts in targets. The Ravens signed DeAndre Hopkins in the offseason and kept Tylan Wallace with a one-year deal, but Hensley believes Walker is positioned to leap Wallace for the WR4 gig despite Wallace posting an 11-193-1 line on 12 targets and 275 snaps last regular season.

P.J. Locke DEN SAF
Broncos' P.J. Locke: Recovering from surgery
5d agoLocke underwent spinal fusion surgery during the offseason and is still recovering, he recently disclosed on his YouTube channel.
Locke played through the back injury during the 2024 season and managed to play 982 total snaps over 15 regular-season games despite dealing with considerable pain. His ability to return to the field was in question, but Locke said that his pain levels are minimal and he hopes to be cleared for training camp.

Darren Waller MIA TE
Dolphins' Darren Waller: Out of retirement, dealt to Miami
6d agoWaller is coming out of retirement and was acquired by the Dolphins in a trade with the Giants on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
The two teams are swapping late-round picks, with the Giants acquiring a conditional sixth-rounder in 2026 and Miami also getting a 2027 seventh-rounder. Waller will sign an adjusted, incentive-laden deal to facilitate the trade to Miami, according to Pelissero. Waller turns 33 years old in September and retired ahead of training camp last summer. However, he recently informed the Giants of his desire to return to football, but only if it could be in Miami. With Jonnu Smith traded by the Dolphins to the Steelers on Monday, Miami had a massive hole at tight end. Waller is getting up there in age and hasn't been particularly effective or healthy since 2020 with the Raiders. It's still a worthwhile flier for a Dolphins offense that was lacking established pass catchers behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Pat Freiermuth PIT TE
Steelers' Pat Freiermuth: Joined by Jonnu Smith
7d agoFreiermuth will play alongside fellow tight end Jonnu Smith after the Steelers traded for Smith on Monday, Steelers Now reports.
Coming off an 88-catch breakout campaign while playing in all 17 regular-season games, Smith represents a threat to Freiermuth's playing time in 11 personnel even if they can work together symbiotically in multi-TE formations. Freiermuth is entering the first season of a four-year, $48.4 million contract extension, while Smith just signed a one-year, $12 million extension through 2026. Both tight ends will find it difficult to approach their 2024 volume, competing against each other (and WR DK Metcalf) for targets from a 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers in Arthur Smith's run-first offense.

Freddy Fermin KC C
Royals' Freddy Fermin: Resting up Monday
7m agoFermin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Fermin will take a seat for the series opener versus Pittsburgh after he had started in each of the Royals' last five games, catching in four of them. Salvador Perez will get a turn behind the plate Monday while Mark Canha enters the lineup as Kansas City's designated hitter.

Andrew Vaughn MIL 1B
Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Moves up to big club
12m agoThe Brewers recalled Vaughn from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
Though he was acquired from the White Sox on June 13, Vaughn had played exclusively at Nashville since the trade but will now get the chance to join Milwaukee after first baseman Rhys Hoskins (thumb) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move. The absence of Hoskins opens up an everyday spot in the lineup, but rather than leaning on the right-handed Vaughn as the primary option at first base, manager Pat Murphy could be inclined to deploy Vaughn in the short side of a platoon with the left-handed-hitting Jake Bauers. Vaughn had been performing effectively for Nashville prior to his call-up, slashing .259/.338/.500 with three home runs and a 10.8 percent walk rate over 65 plate appearances with the affiliate.
-
Rhys Hoskins MIL 1B
Brewers' Rhys Hoskins: Move to IL made official
15m agoThe Brewers placed Hoskins on the 10-day injured list Monday with a Grade 2 left thumb sprain.
Hoskins was hurt during Saturday's loss to the Marlins and a subsequent MRI revealed the structural damage to his thumb. He'll be eligible to return at the start of the second half, but there's a good chance Hoskins will need more time than that to recover. Andrew Vaughn has been summoned from Triple-A Nashville to take Hoskins' spot on the roster, and Vaughn will see action at first base along with Jake Bauers while Hoskins is shelved.

Keider Montero DET SP
Tigers' Keider Montero: Recalled ahead of start
20m agoThe Tigers recalled Montero from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Montero will start for the Tigers in Monday's series opener versus the Rays. The righty has posted a 4.02 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB over 56 frames with the big club this season. Montero could be headed back to Toledo after Monday's outing.
-
Wenceel Perez DET RF
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Taking seat Monday
21m agoPerez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Zach McKinstry will step in as the Tigers' right fielder Monday while Perez heads to the bench after starting in each of the last six games. Perez's season got off to a delayed start after he missed the first two months of the campaign due to a lumbar spine inflammation, but he's provided Detroit with another impact bat since making his return. Through 34 games, the 25-year-old has cobbled together a .261/.312/.539 slash line with seven home runs, one stolen base, 19 RBI and 19 runs.
-
Bailey Horn DET RP
Tigers' Bailey Horn: Headed back to Triple-A
22m agoThe Tigers optioned Horn to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
He's clearing out to free up a spot on the roster for the addition of Keider Montero, who was called up from Triple-A to start in Monday's game against the Rays. Horn has made three relief appearances for the Tigers this season, yielding one run with a 3:1 K:BB over 2.2 innings.

Kobe Bufkin ATL SG
Hawks' Kobe Bufkin: 100 percent for Summer League
2h agoBufkin, who underwent season-ending surgery Jan. 7 to address right shoulder instability, has been fully cleared for Summer League, Grant Afseth of RG.org reports.
Bufkin missed the final three months of the 2024-25 season. His rookie season was sabotaged by injuries as well, with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft having just 27 regular-season appearances under his belt with the Hawks. He's likely to be a featured player for the Hawks during the Summer League, although Afseth reports that he's only expected to appear in a few games before the team shuts him down. Bufkin has a real shot at carving out a rotation role this year.

Thomas Sorber OKC C
Thunder's Thomas Sorber: Won't play during summer
4h agoThunder general manager Sam Presti said in a June 29 press conference that Sorber won't play in the Salt Lake City and Las Vegas Summer Leagues while the rookie center recovers from Feb. 26 surgery on his left foot. "He is still in the return-to-performance phase, and the draft process doesn't really allow for great progress in that because he is traveling all over the place," Presti said of Sorber.
Sorber, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, had his freshman season at Georgetown come to an end in mid-February, when he developed a case of turf toe and required a procedure. Though foot injuries for big men like the 6-foot-9, 270-pound Sorber can often present long-term concerns, the fact that his surgery addressed turf toe rather than repairing a fracture offers hope that the 19-year-old might be ready to go for the start of training camp. For what it's worth, the Thunder are listing Sorber on their summer roster, which could signal that he'll be able to practice with the team in some capacity.

Kyle Anderson MIA SF
Jazz's Kyle Anderson: Joins Utah
5h agoThe Heat traded Anderson and Kevin Love to the Jazz on Monday in a three-team deal that sent John Collins (ankle) to the Clippers and Norman Powell to the Heat, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Anderson has two years left on his contract valued at a total of $18.8 million. The Jazz acquired a 2027 second-round pick via Los Angeles to absorb his contract, however. If the Jazz intend to keep him around, Anderson could be a valuable veteran mentor for Utah's young roster. Anderson made just 61 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, posting averages of 5.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 16.4 minutes.
-
John Collins UTA C
Clippers' John Collins: Traded to LAC
5h agoThe Jazz traded Collins (ankle) to the Clippers on Monday in a three-team deal that sent Norman Powell to Miami while Utah received Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a 2027 second-round pick, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
After appearing in only 40 regular-season games in 2024-25, Collins exercised his $26.58 million player option for 2025-26. Given the current trajectory in Utah, it was only a matter of time before Collins' expiring contract was moved. The veteran's fit in Los Angeles remains unclear, but whether he's starting in the frontcourt with Kawhi Leonard or operating in a sixth-man role, Collins should be a key piece for the Clippers next season.
-
Kevin Love MIA PF
Jazz's Kevin Love: Traded to Utah
5h agoThe Heat traded Love and Kyle Anderson to the Jazz on Monday in a three-team deal that sent John Collins (ankle) to the Clippers and Norman Powell to the Heat, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Love obviously doesn't fit Utah's timeline, but the Jazz picked up a 2027 second-round pick from Los Angeles to entice them to flip Collins' expiring contract. With that said, it remains to be seen if Love will stick around in Utah. Love, who will be entering his age-37 season, made just 23 regular-season appearances in 2024-25 with averages of 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
-
Norman Powell LAC SG
Heat's Norman Powell: Traded to Miami
5h agoThe Clippers traded Powell to the Heat on Monday in a three-team deal that sent John Collins (ankle) to Los Angeles while the Jazz received Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a 2027 second-round pick, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
Powell, who is on an expiring contract worth $20.48 million, had been mentioned in the rumor mill previously, but this still comes out of nowhere. Powell was terrific during the 2024-25 regular season, appearing in 60 games with 21.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.9 three-pointers. In Miami, he figures to be a key complementary role player on the wings, giving support to Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo as a potential third option on offense.

Zac Dalpe FLA C
Zac Dalpe: Announces retirement
5h agoDalpe announced his retirement Monday from playing hockey.
Dalpe sustained a knee injury against Springfield on Dec. 18, limiting him to only nine regular-season games with AHL Charlotte in 2024-25. The 35-year-old forward collected 16 goals and 32 points in 168 NHL regular-season appearances with Carolina, Vancouver, Buffalo, Minnesota, Columbus and Florida during his career.
-
Brendan Brisson LV C
Rangers' Brendan Brisson: Inks one-year deal
19h agoBrisson signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Rangers on Sunday, per PuckPedia.
Brisson spent much of the 2024-25 regular season in the Golden Knights' organization, and he was dealt to the Rangers in a swap for Reilly Smith in March. The 23-year-old Brisson didn't appear in a game with New York, as he finished out the year with AHL Hartford, posting two goals, four helpers and a minus-9 rating over 16 outings. His new deal is a two-way contract, so he'll likely be limited to time with the Wolf Pack again this coming season, unless injuries open up a spot at the NHL level. The California native will be a restricted free agent after the 2025-26 campaign.
-
Jonas Rondbjerg LV RW
Golden Knights' Jonas Rondbjerg: Pens one-year pact
23h agoRondbjerg inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Golden Knights on Sunday.
Rondbjerg produced 11 goals and 15 assists in 53 regular-season appearances for AHL Henderson last campaign. He didn't earn a point in 13 NHL games with Vegas in the 2024-25 regular season. Rondbjerg will probably spend most of 2025-26 in the minors again.
-
Cole Schwindt LV RW
Golden Knights' Cole Schwindt: Lands one-year deal
1d agoSchwindt agreed to a one-year contract with Vegas on Sunday.
Schwindt generated one goal, seven assists, 32 shots on net, 17 blocked shots and 41 hits over 42 regular-season games for the Golden Knights in 2024-25. The 24-year-old forward will be in the mix for a depth role with Vegas during training camp.
-
Raphael Lavoie LV C
Golden Knights' Raphael Lavoie: Lands two-way agreement
1d agoLavoie signed a one-year, two-way contract with Vegas on Sunday, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Lavoie notched 17 goals and 27 points in 42 regular-season appearances for AHL Henderson last campaign. He didn't earn a point in nine NHL games with Vegas during the 2024-25 regular season while posting 10 shots on goal and 16 hits. Lavoie will probably play most of 2025-26 in the minors, but he will compete for a depth role with the Golden Knights at training camp.
-
Mark Gatcomb NYI C
Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Grabs one-year contract
1d agoGatcomb signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Islanders on Sunday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Gatcomb notched nine goals and 17 points in 35 regular-season appearances with AHL Bridgeport in 2024-25. He also collected eight goals, one assist and 149 hits across 39 NHL games with the Islanders during the 2024-25 regular season. The 25-year-old forward will compete for a depth spot with the big club during training camp.
