Amare Barno CAR LB
Amare Barno: Let go by Carolina
1h agoThe Panthers waived Barno (knee) on Friday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
The move opens a spot on the Panthers' 90-man roster for undrafted rookie J.J. Weaver. Barno was limited to five regular-season games in 2024 due to a shoulder injury and finished with seven tackles (four solo), including 1.0 sacks. He underwent a clean-up procedure on his knee during the offseason, but it's unclear whether he would be healthy enough to practice right away were he to catch on with another team during training camp.

Zy Alexander 2005 CB
Zy Alexander: Visits Green Bay
1h agoAlexander (undisclosed) visited the Packers on Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Alexander signed with the Seahawks in May as an undrafted free agent but was waived with a non-football injury designation Monday due to an undisclosed issue. The LSU product should garner some interest from teams looking to bolster its secondary.

Shemar Turner CHI DT
Bears' Shemar Turner: Misses Friday's practice
1h agoTurner (ankle) did not participate in Friday's practice, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
Turner limped off the field during Wednesday's practice after injuring his ankle, and the rookie second-rounder remained sidelined during Friday's session. The severity of the injury isn't clear, but he'll continue to work off to the side before being given the green light to return to individual and team drills. Turner is expected to serve in a rotational role at defensive tackle behind Gervon Dexter and Grady Jarrett during the upcoming season.

Aaron Banks GB G
Packers' Aaron Banks: Nursing back injury
1h agoBanks is considered day-to-day due to a back injury, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
It's unclear when Banks suffered the injury, but his absence allowed Travis Glover to take several reps with the first-team offense at left guard. Banks signed a four-year, $77 million contract with the Packers in March after spending the first four years of his NFL career with the 49ers.

Aaron Brewer MIA C
Dolphins' Aaron Brewer: Working through leg injury
2h agoBrewer has not participated in training camp practices due to a soft tissue ailment in his right leg, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Brewer was spotted wearing a compression sleeve on his right leg. He has been limited to snapping footballs on the sidelines, but head coach Mike McDaniel was not "overly concerned" about Brewer's injury when talking to reporters Friday. Brewer played every single snap for the Dolphins last season and is expected to anchor Miami's offensive line in 2025.

Renardo Green SF CB
49ers' Renardo Green: Suffers hamstring injury
2h agoGreen left Friday's practice due to a hamstring injury, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Green was in the midst of a strong practice before suffering the injury, and he'll undergo further tests to determine its severity. The 2024 second-rounder appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the 49ers in his rookie campaign and is expected to start at outside corner in 2025. An extended absence would give Darrell Luter (pelvis), Tre Brown, Tre Avery and Dallis Flowers additional opportunities for reps during practices and preseason games.

Zack Littell TB SP
Rays' Zack Littell: Tagged for five during loss
16m agoLittell (8-8) took the loss Friday against the Reds, allowing five runs on 10 hits over six innings. He struck out two and didn't issue a walk.
Littell was hurt by the long ball in Friday's loss, giving up a solo homer to Tyler Stephenson in the second inning and a two-run shot to TJ Friedl in the sixth. The five earned runs marked the 29-year-old's highest total allowed since April 10, snapping what had been a strong stretch. Entering the outing, Littell had posted a 2.43 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB across 29.2 innings in his last five outings. The right-hander will aim to return to that form in his next scheduled start against the Yankees.
-
Nick Martinez CIN SP
Reds' Nick Martinez: Grabs ninth win
1h agoMartinez (9-9) earned the win Friday against the Rays, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings.
Martinez extended his recent run of success Friday, limiting Tampa Bay to notch his fifth win in his last six starts. The 34-year-old has been dependable during that stretch, compiling a 3.30 ERA across those five victories. While Martinez doesn't generate a heap of strikeouts, he's consistently provided quality innings when called upon. The right-hander will carry a 4.69 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 86:29 K:BB into a tougher test next week on the road against the Dodgers.

Zack Short HOU SS
Astros' Zack Short: Pops homer in loss
1h agoShort went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's 15-3 loss to the Athletics.
Short kept the Astros from getting shut out when he went deep off Jeffrey Springs in the fifth inning. Since the All-Star break, Short is batting .188 (3-for-16) over seven games. The infielder is up to a .243/.300/.459 slash line with two homers, seven RBI, seven runs scored, no stolen bases and two doubles over 40 plate appearances this season. He is seeing a little more than a short-side platoon role at shortstop to help cover the absence of Jeremy Pena (ribs), who began facing live pitching earlier this week and should be close to a return. Once Pena is healthy, Short could be an option to fill in at third base while Isaac Paredes (hamstring) is on the mend.
-
Ryan Gusto HOU SP
Astros' Ryan Gusto: Lit up in fourth loss
1h agoGusto (6-4) allowed eight runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over 3.1 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Athletics.
Filling in for a rotation that lost Lance McCullers (finger blister) and Brandon Walter (elbow), Gusto was unable to provide much length in his return to a starting role. He gave up two home runs, and reliever Nick Hernandez was tagged for another long ball just after Gusto's exit. Gusto is now at a 5.18 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 82:27 K:BB through 80 innings across 23 appearances (13 starts). The Astros have a full rotation's worth of pitchers on the injured list and none are expected back before August, so it's likely Gusto will be called on for at least one more start, which is projected to be at home versus the Nationals next week.

Tyler Soderstrom ATH LF
Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Goes yard in blowout win
1h agoSoderstrom went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a two-run double, a walk and two total runs scored in Friday's 15-3 win over the Astros.
Soderstrom opened the scoring by plating two runs with a first-inning double before adding a solo shot in the third. This was his first multi-hit effort since July 11 versus the Blue Jays -- he went just 5-for-32 (.156), albeit with three extra-base hits, in the nine contests in between big games. Soderstrom is up to 19 homers, 60 RBI, 53 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple and six stolen bases through 105 contests, and he's maintained a reliable .258/.332/.458 slash line.
-
Reese McGuire CHC C
Cubs' Reese McGuire: Racks up season-high four RBI
1h agoMcGuire went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Friday's 12-5 loss to the White Sox.
McGuire blasted homer No. 6 on the season, racking up a season-high three hits and four RBI in the process. The 30-year-old backstop has played rather sparingly as Carson Kelly's backup behind the plate, but the former has been quite useful when the latter has needed a day off amid Miguel Amaya's (oblique) absence. Through 23 outings, McGuire is hitting .243 with six homers, one double and 15 RBI covering 74 at-bats.

Ricky Council IV PHI SG
Ricky Council: Let go by Philadelphia
8h agoThe 76ers waived Council on Friday.
Council saw his playing time increase over the course of the 2024-25 regular season due to multiple injuries with the team. After the All-Star break, he averaged 9.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists over 22.3 minutes per game, while starting in eight of those second-half contests. Council will turn 24 in August, and his youth and upside should garner plenty of interest from teams on waivers or on the open market if he clears waivers.
-
Damion Baugh CHA SG
Damion Baugh: Waived by Hornets
8h agoThe Hornets waived Baugh on Friday, Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer reports.
The move clears a spot on Charlotte's roster for Antonio Reeves, who has joined the team on a two-way contract. Baugh most recently played in the Summer League with the Hornets, averaging 7.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 three-pointers in 19.2 minutes per game over six outings. He'll hope to latch onto another club elsewhere as backcourt depth ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

14h agoGardner signed a two-way contract with the Heat on Friday, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes.
Gardner's deal is for two seasons. After spending two years with Orlando's G League affiliate, Gardner was a standout for Miami in the Summer League with averages of 13.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.8 steals. -
Lonnie Walker IV PHI SG
Lonnie Walker: Signing overseas
1d agoWalker agreed to a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Walker had his 2025-26 team option declined by the 76ers, and rather than sign elsewhere in the NBA, he'll pack his bags for the Euroleague. He spent time during the 2024-25 season with Lithuania's BC Zalgiris, averaging 13.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19 games.
-
Lester Quinones NO SG
Lester Quinones: Being waived by New Orleans
1d agoThe Pelicans intend to waive Quinones, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
Quinones had initially landed a two-way contract with New Orleans in March and also participated in the Summer League, but he'll now search elsewhere for a home ahead of the 2025-26 season. The 24-year-old swingman averaged 21.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game over 41 outings with the Birmingham Squadron and Delaware Blue Coats in the G League last year, which could give some appeal on the open market prior to training camp this fall.
-
Ron Harper Jr. DET SF
Ron Harper: Waived by Detroit
1d agoThe Pistons waived Harper on Thursday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.
After playing in only one regular-season game for Detroit during the 2024-25 campaign, Harper is officially a free agent. The Rutgers product will be looking for a fresh start in the NBA. He's played a total of 11 games throughout three seasons, averaging 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Conor Sheary TB LW
Rangers' Conor Sheary: Getting PTO with NYR
5h agoSheary has been signed by the Rangers to a PTO, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.
Sheary and the Lightning agreed to terminate his contract earlier this offseason, and he had been a free agent to this point, but the Rangers will give him a chance to make their NHL club with this tryout contract. Should he make the team, he will reunite with the coach he played for, and won Stanley Cups with, when he was a Penguin in Mike Sullivan. Coming off of a season in which he played just five games at the NHL level, the onus is now on the 33-year-old to prove that he still has some gas left in the tank and can contribute to a NHL roster. If he does, it will likely be in no more than a depth role.
-
Oskar Olausson COL RW
Sharks' Oskar Olausson: Acquired from Colorado
8h agoOlausson was acquired by the Sharks from the Avalanche on Friday in exchange for Danil Gushchin.
Olausson had 11 goals and 15 assists in 61 regular-season games with AHL Colorado in 2024-25, and he also recorded three assists in seven postseason outings. The 22-year-old will get a change of scenery via this trade and will likely start the 2025-26 campaign in the minors. He has appeared in four NHL games, including two with the Avalanche last season, in his young career.

8h agoGushchin was acquired by Colorado from San Jose on Friday in exchange for Oskar Olausson. Per CBS, Gushchin signed one-year, two-way contract with the Avalanche as well.
Gushchin had 28 goals, 51 points and 34 PIM across 56 regular-season outings with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. He also recorded an assist, six PIM and six hits in 12 appearances with the Sharks. The 23-year-old will probably start 2025-26 in the minors.
-
Maxim Tsyplakov NYI RW
Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov: Signs two-year contract
13h agoTsyplakov penned a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Islanders on Friday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Tsyplakov and the Islanders were slated to go to arbitration but avoid it with the deal. The 26-year-old had an up-and-down rookie season with New York, generating 10 goals and 25 assists across 77 regular-season contests. Tsyplakov is likely to see a middle-six role in 2025-26 and is expected to put up similar numbers as he did last season.
-
Jackson Blake CAR RW
Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Locks in long-term with Carolina
1d agoBlake signed an eight-year, $45 million contract extension with the Hurricanes on Thursday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Blake is entering the final year of his entry-level contract in 2025-26, but his long-term future with the Hurricanes is now secure. The 21-year-old put up 17 goals, 34 points, 141 shots on net and a plus-10 rating over 80 regular-season appearances in 2024-25 and added six points in 15 playoff outings. He's already established himself as a regular in the top six and should also see time on the second power-play unit at a minimum. There's some risk of a sophomore slump this year, but Blake has a bright future ahead while playing for a perennial contender.

Brett Berard NYR LW
Rangers' Brett Berard: Says he'll be ready for camp
1d agoBerard said Thursday that he was removed from the Team USA roster for the 2025 IIHF World Championship due to a torn labrum, but he expects to be ready for training camp this fall, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.
The exact nature of Berard's injury wasn't previously known, but he clarified Thursday that he tore his labrum during the 2024-25 NHL season and didn't require surgery, but he was held out for Team USA. However, he was already expected to be ready for the start of camp, so it wasn't very surprising to hear him reiterate that fact. The 22-year-old made 35 appearances for the Rangers last year and logged six goals, four assists, 53 hits, 20 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating while averaging 10:43 of ice time.
